So, how is the game? Updating this after reaching credits (3 in-game runs) and I can say the game is fun by the end. What you see in the screenshots is what you get with partial narration (not full as claimed). The twist of the game was revealed at the end of your 2nd in-game run.

Is it boring? The first half was. With that said I recommend you go into the settings and increase the narration speed to 150%. It also has another speed-up mechanic to bypass the narration completely if you want.

Should you buy the game? My initial reaction was that if you get it you should get it on a deeper discount than what it is currently at (15%). My opinion hasn't changed after completing. One run to credits was roughly 6 hours if I remove all afk time.

The twist of the game I've seen done in another game from 2021 and it was done better and with more depth. Make of that what you will.

Run TavernQuest is a welcome breath of fresh air, which is unsurprising since it's by Collin Eddings, a developer who worked on level design for The Stanley Parable. That same sense of smart, disciplined madness is on full display here.

In Run TavernQuest, players play as the text adventure itself instead of as the person playing it. By reversing the roles of player and parser in an irreverent, Zork-like escapade, there's a lot of joy to be found in this unorthodox game. The result is clever, it's funny, and the voiceover narration is pitch-perfect and charming. I'm very happy I played it and I look forward to more by Silicon Sundial for sure.

This is definitely a fun game. It takes a very different approach to a video game, where you become the game program and the NPC is the player. It has a lot of funny moments and the entertainment value is good. The voiceover is very good. I've played for just over an hour now and I'm having a ton a fun with it. It reminds me of being a game master at my bi-weekly table top game that me and friends play. It's the easiest way to describe it. The NPC (player) sends commands about what he wants to do, and your job as the program is to respond. The program makes decisions like what an enemy will do during fights, what rooms random maps will have (like a cave with fork in the road vs a chasm for example), and what loot he gets. In addition you can choose if the "player" gets to succeed at dice games and other things. It's actually very neat. I think it's a wonderful game and I can see where it will take multiple playthroughs to get through all the content.
