Is it impossible? I have the cube at the floating bridge but whenever I look up to throw it ove the red screen I get knocked into the water? [\spoiler]

If you place the cube on one of the elevators and raise it to the top, the cube floats up there and doesn't fall when you lower the elevator. Is this the proper way to solve this level? On lining up the beams to activate the elevators, I placed the block next to the elevator near the platform and then stepped into the beam to bring that elevator to ground level. Turning around to face away from the elevator, I looked down and then moved backwards, jumping onto the block and then onto the elevator...
