absolutley amazing. just play the game and ignore what anyone says.

God it is so hard to get into at first because of the controls and overall jank of the game but PLEASE push through. It is one of the best RPGs I have ever played in my life

Hi, I'm new to the Gothic series.

After struggling for 5+ hours to get the game to:
-Run without a blackscreen preventing me from seeing the game
-Launch from the .exe file in the game folder, only for the display area to shrink to the size of 1/3 of my monitor, rendering all text to be impossible to read and inventory showing only 5 slots at a time
-Stop crashing while the game loads, forcing me to restart my computer and (thanks to the top reviewer on this store page) requiring me to change compatibility options to Windows XP
-Have me figure out community workshop mods are the only way this can be played on modern systems without crashing or bugs, or not launch from the .exe file from the game folder
-Figure out the controls aren't explained at all. neither is anything or who anyone is,

I've come to the conclusion that I've been spoiled by modern RPGs for the past 20+ years.

I've nearly forgotten where was a time when quests/missions didn't show you where your next objective is, how the controls functioned, who you talked to and when you talked to them mattered, and so much more. There are no autosaves. There is no progress meters when you enter the next chapters, or to tell how much you've progressed in each faction you have to interact with unless you completely devote yourself to one of the 3 factions this game has. And there is no in-game indication on what the benefits or drawbacks of joining each faction are until you join them and find out yourself. If you throw away or sell anything, you better hope you didn't need it later.

It's not enough to rely on your own instincts and to take the first options that come to you. This game requires time and research to figure out what routes you want to take and how you want to do them. Thankfully, the community that has kept this game alive provides everything you need to know and will explain it in Autistic detail - so you know it's good.

My only complaints are the bugs and glitches (which, community workshop mods do their best to fix and are 99% successful), and while the English voice acting is so bad, the story and dialogue is beyond interesting enough to keep me going. It's like being a kid again, looking up the oldest of guides on obscure forums to figure out what to do next and what the consequences will be.

I never heard of this series growing up (USA, unsurprisingly), and I'm sad I didn't get to experience this when it first came out. But with how many games nowadays feel so similar to each other, this is exactly the fresh breath of air I've needed.
