The game is a lot like it's predecessor HoHW 1, enhancing on the upgrading stuff that you can do in your town, to improve your powerlevel from run to run. As a roguelike, it's setting a lot of great examples on how to do it right. Dying feels a lot less annoying and grindy than in most games of this genre.

Aside from my main ctiticism below, what I disliked the most is the lack of interesting level ideas. As far as I have played it, there isn't anything "bad", but everything feels a little too familiar and ordinary. Nothing ever surprises in unusual ways. That isn't being helped by trap rooms that have the exact same concepts as those in the previous title - navigate a small section of fire, arrows and/or spikes to be rewarded with a chest containing a trinket/equipment.

I think what I would have appreciated a lot is more to discover in the form of secrets or choices. For example, levels that give you a choice on where to go next, to reach your goal. Meaning, a level could have two exits that lead to distinctly different biomes, both of which bring you to the same destination eventually. Like, one exit goes through sewers to enter the citadel from below and the other exit goes through a forest to reach the building's main gate. That could give a little more variety for each run.

In that same vein, there should be secret levels to find and "chest rooms" could be more interesting than to just be hidden behind a breakable wall or protected by a small trap section. They also shouldn't always be "chest" rooms. How about freeing prisoners that grant an item as reward? (Something like this is used for unlocking gameplay aspects, but it always feels random and never like actually "freeing" someone).

I'd also like to see more exotic ideas for locations, or at least more interesting things happening!
I haven't finished a playthrough yet, though. If anything comes up to change my mind, I'll update here.

That said, what infuriates me and causes me to leave a negative feedback, though, is the absurdity of the goblin caves, in the first chapter. It includes an invisible trap that gets triggered randomly as you move around, causing rocks to fall from the ceiling. There's no warning, no visible indication of it happening. You'll be safe if you just keep on moving, rocks hitting the ground behind you...but...if you decided to stop at one of those triggerspots (without knowing that there is one, of course), there's no way to avoid the damage. This basically means that you can never stop anywhere, unless you know your health is high enough to survive the rock damage.

I managed to stop at one such trap, right after a hard fight. As a reflex, the event caused me to move away swiftly, since the rocks nearly killed me. Take a guess where I came to stop next. Yeah...I died from stopping at 2 rock traps, mere seconds (2 at most) apart from each other.

Also, you can run into those invisible traps during fights, where the risk of getting hit by the rocks is much higher and the cconsequences even worse.

That's just bad game design!

It's absolutely possible to make it through those 2 levels without the traps seeming this harsh. Typical RNG. But...seriously...traps of this kind should never be in any game, except this odd genre of games like "VVVVVV", if anyone remembers that.
