It's official: DarkStone Restoration is now available in Early Access on Steam.

The cult 1999 action RPG from Delphine Software is back on modern PCs, rebuilt by Paul Cuisset, creator of the original. This isn't a remake, it's a restoration.

What you can play right now

The complete solo campaign: recover the seven crystals, rebuild the Orb and face Draak.
Eight heroes, four classes, randomized dungeons and quests, five difficulty levels.
Buddy mode, shared-world couch co-op and Steam Remote Play Together.
Legacy mode, to bring back the authentic 1999 look.
Steam Achievements, leaderboards and stats.

Early Access continues with you

Guided by your feedback, the project goes further: fixes and optimization, up to 4-player online multiplayer, a Quest Editor, balancing, new content and new languages. This is a plan, not a fixed schedule.

Picking up items

Anyone have trouble picking up items whenever there's enemies around? So many times I try to pick stuff up and it makes me target the enemy. I remember on the Playstation version I'm pretty sure the attack button was different from the select/pickup button. Just a suggestion....

Dark Stone Restoration demo: Bugs

Today I have installed the Dark Stone restoration Demo. I have made 4 different characters(max for the Demo). My first game was with two Fighters Male/Female. I went through the tutorial and saw nothing really weird except that I have eight black squares above the middle of the screen labeled 1 thru 8. They had nothing on them and I guessed that they were for spells. When I tried to leave town through the exit where we started, the game showed a screen with a green loading progress bar which loaded about a...

Early Access Review

Pure nostalgia trip...I remember seeing this as a discount PS1 game for about $10 and still amazed they pulled off a 3D ARPG before Diablo 2 even came out. Can't wait to see what improvements can be done to this classic.

Absolute cinema. This is exactly what I would want from a classic game like DarkStone. Not a remake, not a remaster, but a restoration! Optimize it for modern PCs, give it 16:9 aspect ratio, add controller support, achievements, and online play, fix some bugs, and you've got the perfect DarkStone game!

Very good improvement since the 1999 version from Playstation. Love to play it. So far no problem found.

Please Ditch the AI Key Artwork

I love Darkstone, played it on PS1 and on GOG, and I plan to pick up this version and try it out - but please ditch the crappy AI key artwork. Even if the AI art is not in the actual game itself, using it to advertise or as the main storefront image really makes Darkstone appear like a cheap experience, a bad knockoff....
