Between nightmare mode and firstk kiln I'm probably about 10 hours into this now. It's just plain fun.
The structure is fun to explore, though there isn't really much to discover other than the views; your goal is to go down.
You unlock more game modes as you progress, the first mode available is basically a tutorial.
Eventually you will not only get used to dropping 20 stories, but it becomes a necessity to survive.
I really wish there was even more to it, as it's an incredibly solid base for a larger game, but for $3 you're already getting far more than you're paying for

I'm sure the centipede is a metaphor for something. I'm not the one who's gonna figure it out. Good game. Would drop into the nightmare pit again.
