How do I refill my potion at the merchant? Nothing I try works.

After taking the ability "Ambitious" from the level up choices, "Transforms 5% of critical damage into gold." It doesn't seem to matter if there's an enemy to attack, if you keep clicking and the game thinks you should have crit you get gold.
