Patch Notes: 2026.2.5

Hey everyone! We’ve been hard at work expanding the demo and polishing the experience based on your feedback. This update brings new toys to play with, gameplay adjustments, atmosphere upgrades, and a solid batch of fixes.

Let’s dive in.

🚀 New Features

Added two new Drones:

The Grinder, built for high close-range damage, and the Las Cannon, which pierces armor and deals heavy long-range damage to multiple enemies.

Added a Retry button to the Game Over screen.

Dynamo is now the default selected character on the character selection screen.

Camera now slightly zooms out when you take Weapon Range upgrades (up to a limit).

Added heavy rain ambiance to the Lighthouse level.

⚔️ Balance & Gameplay

Increased Bear rotation speed.

Extended raid length for “Lighthouse” and “The Port.”

Removed Slugshot from the Orbit position.

Removed Buckshot from the Fixed position.

The following Orbit weapons now target enemies randomly:

Buckshot
Gatling Gun
Taser Gun
Rocket Launcher

Increased Orbit Drone rotation speed.

🐞 Bug Fixes

Added fallbacks for cases where a general or weapon upgrade cannot be found.

Decals now correctly interact with fog.

Fixed SFX continuing to play when returning to the main menu.

Resolved ultrawide resolution issues — ultrawide is now fully supported.

Fixed resolution dropdown sometimes displaying the wrong previous selection.

Fixed drops spawning inside the starting grid.

Fixed new level or difficulty unlock rewards appearing even if already unlocked.

Black Market cost text now properly changes color based on price.

Adjusted Bear fire direction to be more accurate and straight.

Prevented UI interaction while the Steam overlay is open.

Feedback after playing demo

There's a very solid base for a great survivors/rogue like here. Presentation looks nice, decent sound effects and graphics. With that being said.... The play controls are terrible. I used both keyboard and mouse, then I tried with an Xbox PC game controller. The problem is I want to shoot where I aim the mouse/cursor on the screen. The way the aiming system is set up now seems like it's on a steering wheel I have to to turn the character slowly right or left in order to shoot that way. IMO huge NO NO f...

Patch Notes 2026.2.2

Hey everyone! We’ve been watching your runs, digging through your feedback, and tuning the demo to make every session smoother, punchier, and more fun. Today’s patch brings a big batch of balance tweaks, quality‑of‑life upgrades, performance boosts, and a whole swarm of fixes.

Let’s get into it.

⚔️ Balance & Gameplay

Reduced Blackmarket costs
Lowered base HP Regen, and increased HP Regen upgrade values
Adjusted character stats: Dynamo has slightly less Speed and Luck
Several enemies now fire faster or from longer range; Riot Suppressor HP increased; Pirate Machine Gun range reduced.
Increased time before final overdrive in Record Store – Normal and updated mission text (record tape).
Rebalanced upgrades for smoother DPS curves: stronger Muzzle Heat, reduced Cooling Duration, Rate of Fire, and Attack upgrades.
Weapon tuning: Slugshot, Rocket Launcher, and Hand Gun hit harder; Taser Gun hits softer; Hand Gun damage slightly reduced but overall DPS unchanged.

🎮 Controls, UI & QoL

Gamepad rumble added for key moments like taking damage, critical health heartbeat, menu interactions and more…
Added screen shake toggle, sound feedback in Settings, and visual polish across menus.
Weapon cards & pause menu now show detailed stat units; crit chance now shown as percent.
Formation selection auto-selects Save when 6 slots are filled.
Improved upgrade highlighting logic for weapon-specific and non-weapon upgrades.

⚙️ Performance & Audio

General performance boosts; Low/Medium settings now run faster (great for Steam Deck).
Audio mix cleaned up: reduced overly loud SFX, fixed police sirens cutting off, fixed loud first-time character select and more…

🐞 Bug Fixes

Fixed weapon-specific upgrades only applying to the first weapon of that type.
Fixed incorrect highlighting for same-type weapons.
Fixed UI issues on 16:10 screens (Steam Deck friendly).
Various small UI and audio fixes.

No thank you about screen shake

We don’t want any screen shake at all. Even if I want to play for a long time, it makes me motion sick. There’s no upside—only downsides.

Feedback regarding to the demo

I had to chance of trying this out on Linux (Nobara) today, it works quite well on Linux using Proton out of the box. I would say that game still requires quite bit of polish, there is many good Bullet Heavens out there and while it is fun to play, there is better options out there before coming to Steel Swarm. Characters aren't memorable, and in game assets could use retouch imo. I don't mean to give a negative feedback, but rather be direct about the downsides....

RTS in the Steel Swarm Universe

Honestly I’d love to see an RTS set in the Steel Swarm universe. I really liked the world you guys created it felt unique and memorable. I played the steel swarm MOBA a bit before too and it was pretty fun. And to be honest, mobas feel kinda played out right now, while tbs & rts games seem to be making a comeback. The Steel Swarm universe would fit an rts so well......

It's looking good so far. Is the machine gun guy not supposed to have auto-aim? If not, can controller support be added to aim his weapon with the right joystick
