The apocalypse has been progressing as chaotically as expected over the past few days. We’ve been monitoring your survivor reports, cursed creations, timeline violations, and deeply questionable decisions with great interest.

Humanity remains doomed, but at least you’re making it entertaining 💚

🧟 DEMO SURVIVOR REPORT 🧟

The Ritual has already produced some deeply concerning survivors, including:

☀️ Steve - a balanced water mage snowman who won’t stop talking about how much he loves the summer sun despite the fact it will absolutely kill him. His rival? Solara Sunbather. Basically a six-foot-tall UV death ray in flip flops.

🦈 Roronoa King of Hell Zoro - part shark, part squid, daggers in his mouth, fluffy bunny slippers on his feet. Who knew THIS would be humanity’s last hope against the undead?

🌱 Black Thumbs of Death - a clumsy British gardener who accidentally kills every plant they touch.

Naturally, their rival is The Grand Botanist, the pinnacle of horticultural perfection. The apocalypse truly is poetic.

We’re a small team trying to survive the apocalypse same as everybody else and we really appreciate you all jumping into the bunker with us!

One of the biggest changes since the playtest is the game’s completely upgraded visual style.

Every single Ritual-generated survivor in the game was deleted and rebuilt from scratch using our brand new character pipeline.

That means your hero is going to look even cooler before they are torn apart by zombie hordes.
And perhaps most importantly… EVERYONE HAS CUSTOM SHOES NOW 👟

Your heroes now arrive with snazzy kicks specifically engineered for:

Running from zombies
Panicking in graveyards
Kicking explosive barrels
Dying stylishly

PS. WHAT’S NEW IN THE DEMO?

The demo includes a massive round of improvements, balancing, polish, and new content based directly on community feedback. Here are some highlights from the latest timeline repairs:

🧟 THE WORLD

Survivors now reward you with health pickups after rescue because apparently “saving innocent people” wasn’t enough motivation for some of you.
Failed survivors come back as zombies and yell at you about it
New dialogue and objective intro/outro lines added throughout the game
Zombies no longer randomly stand around reconsidering their life choices
New fog systems and atmosphere passes
Graveyard lighting improvements so you can clearly watch yourself get eaten in full cinematic detail.
Rural trainyard upgrades with freshly laid train tracks
Multiple visual polish passes across levels and UI. Humanity may be doomed but at least the menus look good

🧠 THE RITUAL

New tutorial screens to help fresh survivors navigate The Ritual
Keyboard auto-focus added during hero creation
XP pickups are clearer, easier to grab, and more satisfying
Better signposting so players stop accidentally ignoring incredibly important glowing objects

💥 COMBAT

New level-up VFX
Ricochet and Split abilities now bounce off thrown bones
Zombie hit detection fixed so they stop slapping you from several postcodes away
Hero speed values repaired after some timeline maths disasters
Boss fights are now tougher and more closely tied to your generated hero. (Welcome to your own personal hell.)

🖥️ STEAM DECK SURVIVORS

UI scaling and menu fixes so important information no longer attempts to escape the screen
Character creation screen repaired for portable apocalypse generation
Video codec support improvements
Better gameplay readability overall so you can more clearly identify what just killed you

We’ve been deep in the bunker patching fractures, boarding up weak points, and stress-testing The Ritual. Trying to stay one step ahead of what’s coming.

Expect a brand new art style for even snazzier heroes, plus mid-combat levelling and charged shots, ricochets, and split-shots tearing through the hordes.

More pressure. More chaos. More situations getting out of hand faster than you can fix them.

But before the new timeline opens, Ash and Morgan need to restart The Ritual to stabilise things after all the timeline-hopping chaos.

⚠️ As a result, all existing Ritual connections will be severed. Any heroes you’ve possessed up until now will no longer be playable as the timeline gets wiped clean for the incoming demo.

Raise your glass and pour one out for Pirate Capybara, Sentient Grilled Cheese, and all your other unhinged creations 🫗

Gone from this timeline. Probably causing problems in another one.
