Patch 1.1 - Performance Boosts & Bug Fixes
Thank you to everyone who has been playing and sharing feedback! This update focuses on heavily requested optimization improvements, giving you more control over your performance, and squashing a handful of frustrating bugs.

Here is exactly what’s changing in today’s update:

Optimization & Settings

New Graphics Options: Added a comprehensive Graphics Settings menu, allowing you to fine-tune your visual experience.

Performance Pass: Adjusted background quality settings and default presets to significantly improve overall optimization and frame rates across different hardware.

Bug Fixes

Collision Fixes: Resolved various collider issues to prevent getting stuck or clipping through geometry.

Interactables: Fixed an issue where certain signals and objects would break and become un-interactable.

Microphone Sensitivity: Tweaked mic audio sensitivity to fix clipping and improve overall voice input reliability.

UI & Menus: Fixed a bug causing the language selection buttons to become unresponsive.

Localization: Corrected several typos and text errors within the Burmese language translation.

Resolution Scaling: Fixed a visual bug where the black canvas background would fail to scale properly and leave empty space on certain screen resolutions.

-If I'm in fullscreen and Alt-Tab, the game crashes to desktop. -If I try to change to Borderless, the game crashes to desktop. -If I set windowed and Alt-Enter, the game crashes to desktop. -After finding the secret ending, the game sent me to the menu screen without cursor....

Really cool story

I loved the game, the vibe, the story, everything, really. Thanks so much for working on it and giving it for free! There was a glitch at the very end tho that prevented me from finishing it, but it was obvious at that point what was going to happen so it didn't bother me too much. I like these short first-person games with their simplistic graphics and VHS aesthetic. More and more of such products pop up and Them's Tale is one that is completely free. The synopsis mentions that it is only the first episode - I wonder if the rest will also be available for free or they will all be paid DLCs.

In Part 1 we follow Emily who tries to reach her friend. The first section includes driving then we mostly walk and interact with our surroundings which also means conversing with NPCs. The game has a foreboding atmosphere right from the start and it manages to keep it till the end. There are some jump-scares that are so sudden that one would say they are simply too cheap and annoying.

We are done with the story in around 30 minutes. Since this is completely linear and there are no (at least for now) achievements implemented, there isn't really any point in doing additional walkthroughs. As for the graphics: with VHS aesthetic comes simplistic presentation. It does its job - when we are inside the locations such as a house or gas station etc. everything looks detailed enough.

My problem was the constant stuttering I experienced during certain walking sections. Also, there are no settings for the graphics, at all. Here I did not want to look for a lot of options (after all, this is not an AAA game), just for some filters perhaps to experiment with various additional looks for the aesthetics.

It is an alright little project that will hopefully be optimised and patched up a little bit. I did notice that the street section (including the inside of a house) in the last part of the game included locations I saw in another similar game. Can it be that some assets were simply bought and reused? This part, by the way, has a funny reference to GTA San Andreas.

Overall, I was satisfied with this and I look forward to what the team has in store for us.
