Fun game!!! :D I like the Guinea Pigs Popcorning

Guinea Pig Temple is an unexpected little gem of a game, very well implemented and surprisingly entertaining, with an interesting and innovative set of achievements to obtain. Set in a large and detailed 3D island world, you are a guinea pig (!) with your choice of fur colour & pattern. Your aim is to locate other guinea pigs and lead them to the collection point in a temple complex; finding four different types of food is also required (to unlock the four doorways to the collection point). When 20 guinea pigs have been collected and all doors unlocked, the temple shrine can be entered, which triggers a visual celebratory finale.

Finding other guinea pigs is not trivial given the size of the island and its many trees, plants and buildings, but you have a special power: a squeak, to which any nearby unfound guinea pigs respond with their own squeak (which can be both heard and "seen" as a growing sound bubble). Touching a guinea pig makes it follow you like the Pied Piper; I had a trail of more than 20 at one point. Even if they get separated (e.g. if you swim across an estuary), they will usually catch you up at some point. They can sometimes get stuck in rivers or on stairs, but there are so many that you can always find others.

There are achievements for collecting certain overall numbers of guinea pigs, for performing certain actions (e.g. knocking into fruit trees), and, most interestingly, for collecting groups of guinea pigs with particular related characteristics (e.g. bi-coloured, names of foods, names of cities, etc). There is also one special guinea pig to be found, and a very nice touch is that you are told when it appears on the island, so you don't need to look for it until then. Also you don't need to finish all of the achievements during a single playthrough; the totals, types and names of guinea pigs already found are maintained between sessions. Most impressively, at least for me, was that my usual weakness for motion sickness in these kinds of game was not triggered at all!

All in all a really nice, sweet and wonderfully made game. If I had a criticism it would only be for its realism: these guinea pigs are bundles of energy and movement, but my children's real guinea pigs of many years ago were basically static: put them on your lap or shoulder or even on your head and they stayed perfectly still (goodness only knows how they ever survive in the wild).

Am I missing something?

The gameplay involves you running around squeaking and looking for guinea pigs. They aren't hidden in any interesting ways, they just sorta roam around.

The foods were easy to find as well. At the end you get a cutscene and that's about it. There's nothing really much to this at all.

It was definitely not for me. But given the amount of positive reviews, maybe other people will like it more than me!
