Major SCOS Patch Deployed

The SCOS team (Dustin, Brian, Nyx and myself) have been working hard for the last few weeks on bug fixes and implementing QOL improvements based on player feedback.

Here’s a short list of what’s been done so far:

Performance improvements from improved occlusion culling
Hardware warning added to the main menu
Improvements made to how hardware is scored (and therefore initial settings are decided by the game should be more accurate and result in fewer instances of low FPS gameplay)
Fixed the black square issue appearing on the sun in all maps
Video options confirmation will now close when reverting
Various logic errors fixed in the campaign mission
Contacts list no longer stays open by default in the interior
Control guides updated to include the interior bridge controls – Tactical, Engineering and Comms
Hotkeys added for bridge officer interaction on the bridge
- F1 - TAO
- F2 - ENG
- F3 - NAV
- F4 - COMM
- F5 - SENS
- F6 – XO
Keyboard targeting control added:
- B: Next Target
- N: Clear Target
Ajax missile tube doors have been found for all scenes including campaign and skirmish
When a player enters space mode from the bridge, autofire/pilot settings are maintained until the player fires weapons or moves the ship manually
The UI now properly displays the player’s ship sensor range
Various interior clipping issues were fixed
You can no longer go down the stairs and get stuck in the machine room
The game ends properly if you’re destroyed in campaign mode

We’re continuing to work on some improved tooltips and tutorial aspects for the third mission and general bugfixes. However, we would like to note that this is the bulk of our planned efforts for the Alpha Demo. In the near future we will start sending the game out to games media/blogs/YouTubers, etc in hopes of gaining support for our Kickstarter which will be upcoming in the near future.

We’d like to thank everyone for their support, feedback and bug-hunting assistance.

Demo acting incredibly slow, not doing anything

Got the demo, downloaded it, tried playing it. The mouse moves across the screen about as fast as molasses. Not sure why, my comp runs games way bigger than this just fine. There's no tutorial, so I clicked on campaign. Something popped up telling me to scan something, nothing happened when I tried to click on things. Clicked buttons on keyboard, mouse, nothing happened. Clicked on crew members but the mouse was too slow and wouldn't follow where I was moving it....

SCOS - Minor Update + What's Incoming

On behalf of the entire SCOS team, I want to express how grateful we are that you’ve been playing our alpha demo. We know there’s still a way to go, and your feedback (and logs) have been vital in giving our Unity developer (Snifheim) the data he needs to hunt down and fix bugs. We’re also aware of a number of bugs that are annoying rather than game-breaking, as well as feedback on needed QOL improvements.

We’re hard at work, with all hands on deck!

And while that update bakes, we have pushed out some quick fixes that address the ultra-wide monitor and input issues in the campaign, as well as a fix for a bug that prevented the game from retaining the frame rate limit setting from session to session.

Additionally, while we are going to implement tooltips, a bridge command control map, and better instructions in the campaign’s third mission, in the meantime we’ve produced two video tutorials explaining how the exterior space view and interior bridge command modes work in detail.

I hope these are helpful. Our next update is focused on significant performance improvements, especially for Nvidia 3000/2000/1000 series cards. While that’s in progress, if you’re experiencing interior FPS issues, lower the “Window Quality” setting under video settings. It is the number one lever to pull for interior performance right now.

Again, I want to thank everyone who’s played and apologize to those who have had issues. Our goal is to improve SCOS as fast as possible.

The CSV Leonidas is Ready for CommandCommanders, the Starship Command: Orion Spur demo is now live.

If you’ve been following our development process, thank you for your patience. If you’re just finding us, welcome aboard.

What You’re GettingA 30-minute single-player campaign preview that introduces you to the CSV Leonidas and her crew, plus full skirmish combat featuring multiple Coalition Defense Force and League of Sol Navy vessels across three maps.

Two Ways to PlayBridge Command: Sit in the captain’s chair. Issue orders to your tactical officer, sensor chief, and the rest of your bridge crew. They execute while you lead.

Direct Control: Take the helm yourself. Pilot the Leonidas in third-person, balance power between weapons, shields, and engines, and fight your ship your way.

Both modes are fully playable in the demo.

Linux demo not running - missing executable

When installing the demo on Linux (CachyOS), the game's executable installs with the x86_64 extension rather than .exe, and trying to launch it gives a missing executable error. Manually changing the file extension to .exe fixes the issue. Maybe the dev could fix this on their side so manual manipulations weren't required?...

What am I doing wrong?

First off, let me say I'm still really excited for this game, despite how it's currently really aggravating the ever-living hell out of me. I haven't yet watched or read any tutorials yet, just FYI, but that aside, we REALLY need a decent in-game tutorial, because I feel like I'm being thrown into the deep end of a pool full of hungry bull sharks after being covered in cuts.
