Mansion and Meta Month: Rooms, Quests, Chaos

Hey whisker-watchers! 🐾

Lately we've been pouring a lot of time into the meta layer - levels, progression, and all the "one more run" reasons.

The core loop is now simple and satisfying: grab resources during runs then spend them back at base.

And yes - we've built the first floor of the Mansion. Two more floors are coming (send help… and wood planks).

It finally feels like a real home you're upgrading over time, not just a placeholder room, but still there are some placeholders :)

We also added quests - you can now officially annoy your Human and get XP for it 😼

On top of that, we introduced a rank system and scattered stashes across locations. During runs you can find all kinds of little goodies and then hang them on your Wall of Pride back at the Mansion.

We've also introduced the Chaos system. The more mischief you cause, the higher your Chaos level - and it affects enemies and overall run difficulty.

Right now we've switched focus to the big one: enemies and combat systems.

We're working on perks, shooting, and the overall feel/readability of combat - making sure night runs become way more satisfying (and way more "cat").

What's Single Player?

..nothing - based on game play type description, I proclaim. So, IMO, fraud.

To me, a perfectly normal and traditional loner player, Single Player (SP) means; I download the game content via Steam servers, and once downloaded and before doing anything else, I disconnect internet and after that the game loads and has some reasonable play mode where I can proclaim that "Yes indeed, I am playing the game." ....

Mansion Milestone! Co-op Core Online, Shops Live, Cats Shine!

Hi friends! Quick paws-up on what we’ve been building. Short version: the core gameplay now runs on multiplayer rails, invites are in, shops unlock with progression, and the cats learned new tricks. Longer version below. 🐾

What’s new

Core gameplay - multiplayer. The main loop now runs in a networked session rather than local stubs.
Hot-join & graceful exits. We handle a remote player connecting, disconnecting, or timing out without imploding the session.
ESC menu (co-op controls). Invite/kick a friend, see their status, and view their in-game name.
Interactive objects over the net. Doors, switches, dig spots, and other interactables now behave correctly for remote clients.
Weapon & Junkit Shops (with unlock rules). You’ll start seeing progression gates (earn it, then buy it).
Pop-up(s). When you unlock something, the game celebrates it.
New cat animations. Smoother, sassier, more expressive - because style matters.
Lots of fixes. Crashes tamed, race conditions shooed away, desyncs declawed.

Studio news (meow-stones)

We picked a Mansion prototype as our first "home base" slice to focus the build (think cozy-spooky rooms, clear progression hooks).
We entered Blue Ocean’s Rising Tide and placed #6 out of ~400 projects - huge thanks for cheering us on!
We’re also hopping into animal-themed showcases and fests where The Whisker Watch obviously belongs. 🐱

What we’re working on right now

Content - more weapons, junkits, perks and EVERYTHING!
Balance & readability for Weapons and Junkits in a networked context.
More QoL in the co-op flow: clearer invites, status hints, and failsafes if someone’s Wi-Fi naps.
