Patch 1.0.9.1 is LIVE! We’ve cleared out a few bugs and polished up the field. Check out the full lineup of fixes and updates below!

🧢 IMPROVEMENTS (Game Polish, Balance Changes, and Features)

Audio: Classic Walk Up Music from Backyard Baseball ‘97 is now available as an option under Sound Settings.
Audio: Added Post-Match Celebration Audio.
UI/HUD: Improved baseball stat descriptions in the statistics screen and record book
UI/HUD: BUG FIX: Adjusted positions of away and home team iconography.
UI/HUD: BUG FIX: Added spacing to Kids, profiles, and team names.

🧢 FIXES (Bug Resolutions)

⚾ Global & Menus

Fixed an issue where Screen Resolution always defaults to the lowest setting upon launching the game.
Fixed an issue where the loading screen gets stuck when going to the Clubhouse from the Title Screen.
Fixed an issue where Xbox glyphs appear when using a wired PS gamepad controller to navigate.
Fixed an issue where Graphics Settings couldn't be adjusted.
Fixed an issue where team logos are tinted blue and red in the Pause Menu.
Fixed an issue where there is no zoom-in transition when selecting the Pick-Up Window in the Clubhouse.
Fixed an issue where the Team Photo Polaroid was not displaying correctly.
Fixed an issue where players could get semi-infinite card packs in the Card Shop.
Fixed an issue where the trophy displayed changes when pressing the \[R] key or the North button in the Hall of Fame.
Fixed an issue where common names with religious connotations were not properly removed from the block list.

⚾ Audio & Voice

Fixed overlapping and delayed Announcer voicelines.
Fixed an issue where Custom Kids were not following Voice Assignments.
Fixed missing team names voice lines.

⚾ Gameplay & Match Mechanics

Fixed an issue where sliding after immediately hitting the ball would cause kids to run back towards home plate.
Fixed an issue where runners could advance after an Infield Fly out is triggered.
Fixed an issue where the camera switches back to the Home Run camera when a runner advances from second base onward during a Skip Homerun.
Fixed an issue where the plain text of the pitcher's name briefly appears when the batter hits the first pitch of the game.
Fixed an issue where the player is unable to change the position of fielders during a match when the player is pitching.
Fixed an issue where Kimmy Eckman's ball teleports upwards or disappears when she hits early on Open Stance.
Fixed an issue where Luanne Lui's Teddy Bear VFX breaks after returning to home plate following a foul.
Fixed an issue where player positions were not added to their portraits in the top right of the HUD.
Fixed an issue where the Match Intro commentary instantly skips to Team Strategy after Team Drafting.
Fixed an issue where base runners re-evaluated decisions that should only be made during the initial fielding play.

Backyard Bash: Fixed an issue where an extra skip button appears when hitting a homerun.

Backyard Bash (Tee Ball): Fixed an issue where the game becomes unresponsive when switching batters immediately after hitting the ball in Tee Ball.
Backyard Bash (Tee Ball): Fixed an issue where the "Switch Stance" control prompt is missing during gameplay.
Backyard Bash (Wiggle Ball): Fixed the missing batting reticle and game block after playing Wiggle Ball.
Backyard Bash (Wiggle Ball): Fixed an issue where the field name for when Wiggle Ball Night Mode is unlocked is missing in the Game Summary.
Local Multiplayer: Fixed the pitch reticle size so that perfect pitches correctly reflect a larger area of swing spot uncertainty.
Local Multiplayer: Fixed a baserunning issue where the baserunner can move towards an occupied base.
Local Multiplayer: Fixed an issue where the pitching power-up icon appears misaligned when Player 2 (Gamepad) spins the roulette.
Local Multiplayer (Quick Play): Fixed an issue where Player 2 can switch sides via the tab key or the west button in the VS Screen.
League Play: Fixed an issue where the Pitching and Batting Power-Up roulette does not fill after returning to League Play.
League Play: Fixed an issue where Season Stats show Game Stats values when accessing Statistics in Game Summary.
League Play: Fixed an issue where the scoreboard does not display the at-bat, on-deck, and in-the-hole batters during inning transitions.
League Play: Fixed the BYB Playoffs Introduction Note, which had an incorrect text description of the Playoffs Format.
League Play: Fixed an issue where two checkmarks appear after accessing the Team Color UI when using the Random color button in Team Creation.
League Play: Fixed an issue where UI focus returns to the Game Setup menu after switching windows while the "Ready to Play" prompt is displayed.
League Play: Fixed an issue where the previous match score briefly appears on the mini scoreboard in the next match.
League Play: Fixed an issue where loading a save file from the Team Dugout autoload prompt results in a load error.
Sandy Flats: Fixed an issue where players are able to walk on top of the pond on the right side of the stadium.
Tin Can Alley: Fixed an incorrect out ruling after the ball bounced off a wall and was caught by a Fielder.

⚾ Tutorials & Saves

Fixed an issue where the Tutorial gets stuck when players continue playing while the Controls Menu is opened during the Fielding Phase.
Fixed an issue where pausing the game in the Tutorial might cause the strikezone and reticle to disappear.
Fixed an issue in the Stance Tutorial where the Z input does not work when switching to squared mode.
Fixed an issue where players were unable to manually save a game after previously being able to.

⚾ Draft & Player Cards

Fixed an issue where Angela Delvecchio's birthday is displayed as 11/20 instead of 12/20 on her Player Card in Team Draft.
Fixed an issue where the Card number does not update based on the selected kid during Team Draft.

Backyard Fans,

Thank you for continuing to report bugs and provide feedback. We're already implementing hot fixes, 3 in the last 48 hours, and have more on deck. We are so genuinely grateful for your support and for sharing your feedback on the game.

As mentioned in our last update, we have all systems firing while we focus our immediate efforts on Kid Specific Personality gameplay adjustments and Fielding for Updates. While those Updates are underway, our UI team is working through stacks of Stat improvements, League Play Storytelling features, and more. We will continue to deliver Hot Fixes alongside the game Updates.

Here are the most recent updates in the latest patch that you will see hit the game:

🧢 PROFANITY FILTER:

Updated to be less aggressive and to allow previously blocked words

🧢 AUTO-ASSIGNED POSITIONS:

Pablo’s pre-selected position has been adjusted, following fan feedback

🧢 CARD PACK EXPLOIT:

A bug allowing semi-infinite card packs has been addressed. Sorry, fans, earn them the old-fashioned way, through play!

🧢 MOUSE PLAYERS:

Resolved several bugs for fielding that contribute to the sluggishness and feel
Resolved several bugs where Fielders cannot catch the ball from the ground in some cases
Make fielders keep moving to the last cursor position after finishing the "hold and drag" input sequence
Resolved bugs related to sliding, where using the right mouse button to slide can impact and control several baserunners rather than one.

New character additions in the future?

for a $40 game the roster is very lacking in options. End up having the same people in my teams every time. Shouldn't be too much to ask? To add like 20-30 new characters? Requires a few voice lines I guess and some unique animations.

absolutely CRIMINAL price tag....they are predators just preying upon nostalgia.

higher difficulty does not equal a harder challenge that you can traverse through skill, it just means EVERY. SINGLE. HIT. gets caught for an out. you spend about 80% of the game in the field because the difficulty system just means "how fast would you like us to catch your hits"

this game is extremely shallow for a 40 dollar pricetag, and there is no challenge or difficulty... not one you can control by being better at the game anyways.

the harder the difficulty, the more the ball just miraculously goes straight to an outfielder and the lower your chances are for big hits. Higher difficulty = fixed game

This game has potential but it misses the mark big time. Don't get me wrong, the gameplay is fun, And i enjoyed the game. But i can't recommend it. i think they should have pushed the release back because the game isn't even complete.

Gameplay wise it has bugs, that is to be expected. But it is kind of frustrating when having a runner on first and hitting a single into the outfield only to have the runner get thrown out at second because the cpu decided your runner should stay at first base so then you have to manually tell them to move. Its also annoying to have fly balls that bounce off the outfield fence walls in multiple ballparks get called out when the cpu catches it. It feels to me like this game wasn't even tested when they released it. The championship stadium, i took a screen shot of the field, the foul poles and the fair and foul line don't even make it to the fence. That is straight up embarrassing for a release.

The gameplay bugs i can look over because they happen and can be fixed. But what i can't overlook is how they kinda stripped the personality of all the characters and part of the game itself. I am not a big fan of the homerun celebration sequence and the music, i know you can turn it off, but For example Achmed khan. They turned him from a heavy rockin guitar man into a pop artist. His homerun music is this weird trap beat and when he does his celebration, he does this weird michael jackson yell. That aint achmed khan at all. i am also not a huge fan of the voice acting. Its Clear they didn't spend time recording that many lines. Vinne the Gooch is too quiet and sounds too depressed. They re-use the Sunny Day "pitcher entrance" vocal line when the pitcher on the other team GOES UP TO BAT and isn't pitching. Not only that, but they seemed to forget to record Sunny Day's vocal name lines for the Non-backyard kids. Chico Pappas will get custom card art made for him, but won't even get his name read out by Sunny Day in game. I don't know how they missed that. It was in the old games.

Overall i think this game is a mixed bag. i had fun playing it, but its clear to me that this was not ready to be released and i hope they go back and work on the vocal lines and at least fix the fields.

Feedback on Unlocking Backyard Legend (Hardest Difficulty)

The game is alright, but I am starting to get tired of grinding league play to unlock the hardest difficulty. I went through regular season, then 2 post season tournaments, and now I need to go through a 3rd one that is even longer. If I knew league play was this long, I would have set the innings length to 1 or 3 innings. Playground Pro is too easy for experienced adult players. It would be nice if there was a difficulty setting between Playground Pro and Backyard Legend that was already unlocked. Eithe...

Can't recommend with blatant sponsorships in game combined with the high price. Others have already mentioned in their reviews the Gatorade powerups, but I haven't seen anyone discuss the Frosted Flakes sponsorship.

There's additional Gatorade sponsorships in the Super Colossal Dome (a banner in left field and one in the commentary booth) which feels like a real slap in the face to see after making it to the Ultra Grand Championship of the Universe Series.

There's a similar banner for Frosted Flakes at Big City Stadium which would've frustrated me, but the game went a step further. In Dirt Yards, there's a cute mural mostly of old Backyard Baseball team logos and has a Tony the Tiger in the lower left of it. Again, would've annoyed me if that's all it was, but I hit a home run that bounced off it and was gobsmacked when Sunny Day and Vinnie launched into an exchange along the lines of "wow that ball was hit right at the kellog's frosted flakes mural! the breakfast of champions! it's grrrrrreat!" I couldn't believe my ears.

So it's for these previously undisclosed sponsorships I cannot recommend this game. The price being $40 in addition to having these is a huge insult. And, I know this game is marketed towards 30-40 year olds who remember playing these games as kids, but those people's children are going to play this game. And they're going to be served these ads. And that's just really gross to me.

Honestly, game-wise, I do like a lot of what they did. Baserunning is worse than in past games (can't steal bases anymore and the AI is really bad at tagging up/going with no way of overturning its decision). Fielding feels as janky as it did back then, just with new jank. Pitching is as much a mystery box as it was but I like the timing minigame added as a distraction from that. I like hitting a lot. Feels like that's where all the focus went and I think they did a great job on that. And most importantly the pace of the games is just way better. Things like the ball getting back to the pitcher after a pitch taking half a second rather than two seconds adds up.

I could talk more about subjective things like how I don't understand the voice direction for Vinnie making him sound really sleepy, or why the songs are purposely toned down when it was cool how bombastic and in-your-face they were, or why promise online play but not come with it at launch, but I think that's beyond the scope of the review. The bottom line for me is that I need the sponsorships gone if I'm ever going to recommend this to anyone else.

Would anyone be interested in a Hidden Stats mod + Attribute Editor?

I’ve been working on a mod for Backyard Baseball 2026 and wanted to see if anyone would actually be interested in using it before I post it. The main part is a read-only hidden stats/scouting tool. It shows the normal player ratings, more detailed hidden attributes, pitch ratings, player comparisons, strengths and weaknesses, and special character effects.
