This could be an incredible hidden gem with a few small changes to the controls.

The biggest issue is that steering is digital, despite using an analog stick. Even a slight nudge on the left stick will rapidly increase your turning speed from 0% to 100% at a fixed rate. You need to rapidly tap the stick to keep the ship from oversteering and sending you into a tailspin. Steering also moves the camera, meaning you have to constantly re-adjust your aim while moving around.

I also dislike the boost mechanic, which forces you to stare at the bottom of the screen and ignore the interesting scenery.
