Release Delay: Apologies and Explanation

Hello again GaG fans.

Recently I announced that GaG would be delayed until 13 February from our initial announced release date. The reasoning behind this delay was vaguely mentioned in that original announcement, but not fully explained. This was because we thought the delay was a small one. However due to recent developments, it has become apparent that the delayed date given will also not be sufficient, and this time we owe you a proper explanation as to why it is necessary.

Explanation

Around the beginning of this month, after several rounds of extensive playtesting and meetings between the dev team, we had a realisation that the characterisation, flow and writing present within certain routes were not meeting the quality we expected and did not feel cohesive to the themes that we wished to portray. After discussion, the team decided that the routes in question would have to be partially re-written.

Initially we thought re-writing would take a couple of weeks and then we could release soon afterwards, however as those weeks progressed we realised that the true extent of work required.

The re-written routes would also need to be playtested, then polished, and then other aspects of the game would also need to be reiterated and finalised before the game could be presented to the public in the best possible state.

Eventually we had to make the difficult admission that, as inexperienced indie developers, we had underestimated the intensity and extent of work required within this final lap of dev before the game is completed. Meaning that our “delayed” release date would also be too soon.

When will we release?

Therefore, it is with great remorse that we have to say that Grow a Girlfriend will not be releasing on the previously announced dates. We will learn our lesson and not give a specific date at this moment and instead will announce that when we are absolutely (100% FOR SURE THIS TIME WE PROMISE) certain that we will be ready to release on that date. This delay is not going to be a long one, and we will most probably release the game sometime within or around April.

I would like to end off this message by giving a very big heartfelt THANK YOU for the patience shown thus far, especially because everyone was so understanding in response to the previous announcement. I, and the rest of the team, would really appreciate that understanding again, and in an act of penance I have made this sketch of Button and MC to garner everyone’s good graces.

What do you guys think the moral of the story is?

To summarize the story: -the mc is tormented by an 'intrusive thoughts demon.' He expresses extreme hatred for the mc, obviously meant to convey the mc is very self-loathing. He never really seems to challenge his own thoughts, in one ending he begins unconsciously muttering it out loud. -Button is a surprise "girlfriend" who at first doesn't seem very bothered about her fate. She's completely open to being killed, then eaten. -There's two major routes in the game. Manly described them as "Anime tragic lo...

Grow a Girlfriend Release [up]Date: Friday 13th February

New release date?

When I announced the release date of GaG for 2nd Feb, I felt certain nothing unpredictable would happen. Well, something did.

Some unforeseen occurrences in the development process of the game have meant that we are we won’t be able to meet that date. However our delay is not a big one — only 11 days.

Looking on the bright side, this suits our game perfectly as it is the scary day as well as being right next to Valentines! Horror and dating cute girls, what more could one ask for?

This small delay is necessary to ensure that the game will be in its best possible state upon release, and we hope that everyone will be understanding.

Other news:

Regarding translations, I was hoping to do something special for translating the game, however that also experienced some delays due to the aforementioned "event", so for all of our non-English fans, please keep a close eye on an announcement closer to launch. We do have something in mind :)

Some other exciting news: We are working on a remastered soundtrack, which we'll post on YouTube and other music platforms after launch with cute animations of each girl (in various states, mwahaha) to suit their track! Please accept this small image of Button, as an idea of what to expect.

GaG is releasing on 2 February 2026!

1) Holiday Season Competition

Originally set for "Q4 2025", we nudged release to avoid the fierce number of games coming out right now. Seeing how many games GaG would have to compete in order to have a decent amount of publicity, I realised releasing around the end-of-year holiday season was a no-go. Let's not make a rookie indie game dev move and stumble at the last hurdle.

2) Translations on Launch

We want to have multiple languages available upon release, since so much of our audience is non-English speaking, and this will give translators time to try achieve that.

Grow a Girlfriend surpassed its wishlist goal!

Thank you to everyone involved! We're at over 8000 wishlists now and this is a huge achievement for an indie game! It means we are more likely to have a spot on "Popular and Upcoming" the weekend before and day of our release, which is going to help our publicity so much.

Hey, I’m one of the commenters you replied to on Manly’s video. :) Now that I’ve had more time to collect my thoughts I had some further comments I wanted to share since you’re welcome to feedback. First off, Button being okay with being eaten and even happily encouraging the MC to kill her reminds me of a specific genre of horror that I absolutely love. How do I disable the skip function?

Somehow, the skip function got triggered and it was skipping all lines, including lines I hadn't read before, even though I hadn't pressed anything as far as I know. Reloading and didn't help, and I can't even see a button for enabling and disabling skip in the menus....
