The Cloudbreaker Demo is Live!

The day is finally here. The Cloudbreaker demo is officially live on Steam.

You can download it right now and start crafting the perfect sky ship.

Here's the setup: Haven is sinking. The power of the Bloil Crystal is fading, food is running low, and the Biotes outside aren't getting any friendlier. You're a Cloudbreaker, which means it's on you to dive through the clouds and collect what you need to survive. Brave the depths and just maybe you'll bring back a Bloil Crystal so Haven can last another generation.

Your inventory is your build. Every Engine Part you pick up slots into the Engine Grid, and how you arrange them changes everything. Place the right pieces next to each other and you'll start seeing synergies that turn a rough dive into a power trip. Place them wrong and, well, you'll learn fast.

This demo is also our warm-up for Steam Next Fest in June, so we'd love for you to jump in early, break things, and tell us what you think. Your feedback genuinely shapes where the game goes from here.

Feedback after very short session

i only played for 18 minutes, which was 2 runs and some menuing. anyways, quick feedback first of, i think the game doesnt run in anything above 1080p im pretty sure. on a 1440p monitor, it felt blurry. i like the features you added like CRT curve etc, which helped, but you could still feel the resolution being "not it". you also dont show the resolution in your options, which makes this issue worse. the pace of the game starts really slow, but you die in like 5 hits whic ends the run quicker than i woul...

Cloudbreaker Playtest V1 is live!

Those who have been granted access are among the first people to play Cloudbreaker outside of our development team (AKA Brendan and Anand 🙂).

We’re hoping this stage of Cloudbreaker will be a collaboration with all of you. Please let us know how you’d like to see the final game shaped.

What’s Included in the Playtest

The first two stages of the game (each lasting ~20 minutes). Bosses and waves in Stage 2 are still WIP but fully playable.
A limited set of Engine Parts (equipment you place into your ship’s hold/inventory).
A limited set of Relics (powerups for your ships). Some art assets are still WIP.
Three playable ships.
Feedback Survey to collect your thoughts and suggestions.
Keyboard + Mouse and Controller support*
Windows and Linux builds**

We want to hear what you enjoy and dislike about the core loop. Your feedback here helps us dial in the gameplay and ensure it's as fun as possible.

Difficulty

Cloudbreaker is intended to be a challenging game. However, if it's too difficult, there’s a difficulty slider that can be adjusted between runs in the Options menu. If you do adjust it, please let us know—this helps us calibrate difficulty more accurately.

Performance & Benchmarking

Cloudbreaker may look simple on the surface, but there’s a lot happening on the GPU. This may cause framerate drops on older PCs. If this happens, please let us know what hardware you’re using.

Bugs

We’re a two-person team here at Ballast Games, so we need your help breaking things! We’ve squashed as many bugs as we could, but you're sure to find some along the way. Please report them so we can fix them ASAP.

Known Issues

Shields can be recharged by removing a master shield when it is depleted.
*Some areas still have controller-support issues. If you encounter these, please report them. In most cases you can proceed using keyboard and mouse to get past the blocking menu or interaction.
**Performance on Steam Deck is still WIP. Expect framerate drops toward the end of a run.

where do i even start.

i think that the ramping up is a lil bit psycho in the is game. im not sure what its based off of, im guessing its level. but if you get a level and dont get a cannon or a missile as your choice, everything just ramped up but not for the player. i suggest tying the enemy appearances be based off of weapons on the ship... the lil white cloud things that chase ya.... F them! enemies move faster than the player is gonna make a lot of ppl hate this game, slow the ramping of enemy appearance, oh and the weapon...
