Havent got a clue what they mean -- any suggestions please?

cannot use any of them anywhere! how can I progress in the game?

Stuck in chapter 3. I have the scissors, the white plaster cross and the sapphire but there doesn't seem to be any further interaction that works or that I can find. Any hints gratefully received. Enjoying the game although a little bit too linear for me....
