Cash grab remaster from a dev who abandoned two games DO NOT BUY
Bought this the second it dropped and refunded after 1 hour
Lukasz Jakowski has been doing the exact same thing for years now, release a half finished game, add almost nothing after launch, then move on to the next thing while the community keeps it alive with free mods. He abandoned age of history 2 years ago with missing mechanics and bugs that modders had to fix. Then he released age of history 3, which was even more unfinished, and basically ghosted that one too, barely any patches before shifting all focus to this definitive edition of the 2018 game
And what do we get? paid remaster that copies features the modding community has had for years like bigger map with 14k provinces, capitulation system, atomic weapons, better diplomacy, new religions/governments, qol stuff like multi army selection and etc. Free mods like AoH 2.5, QBAM, Bloody Europe and dozens of others already do all of this and more. This remake feels like lukasz just took the best of community work, added a new UI and steam workshop on it, and called it "definitive" Its not. Its a cynical garbage piece of the game
The worst part beside quality is, he runs his official forum like a personal echo chamber. Criticize anything important like unfinished mechanics, abandoned games, this cash grab and youre instantly banned. Ive seen it happen to a lot of long time players
If you love age of history series, just stick to the free mods on the original aoh2. They're better, more updated, and actually made by people who give a damn. This "Definitive edition" is nothing but a lazy cash grab from a dev whos proven time and time again that he will abandon whatever hes working on the moment something newer can make him money
Do not support this. Refund it like I did. Just play the mods

Купил сразу как вышла и вернул через 1 час.
Лукаш уже годы делает одно и то же, выпускает полусырую игру, почти ничего не добавляет после релиза, а потом бросает её и переключается на следующую, пока комьюнити держит проект на плаву бесплатными модами. Он забросил age of history 2 много лет назад с кучей недоделанных механик и багов, которые фиксили только моддеры. Потом вышла age of history 3, ещё более сырой и его он тоже по сути забросил, выпустил пару мелких патчей и всё, все силы сразу перекинул на этот ремейк игры 2018 года
И что мы получаем? платный ремастер который просто копирует фичи что моддерское комьюнити уже годы имеет в бесплатных модах типа карта на 14 тыщ провинций, система капитуляции, атомное оружие, улучшенная дипломатия, религии и новые формы правления, небольшие улучшения типа выбора нескольких армий и т.д. Бесплатные моды например AoH 2.5, QBAM, Bloody Europe и ещё куча других делают всё это и даже больше и самое главное не просят с вас денег. Этот кусок говна выглядит так, будто Лукаш просто взял лучшее из модов, прикрутил новый интерфейс и воркшоп и гордо назвал «окончательной версией». Это не так. Это жадный кусок говна а не игра
Самое отвратительное кроме качества игры, он ведёт свой официальный форум как личную эхо камеру. Покритикуй что то важное типа недоделки, заброшенные игры, ту херню и тебя сразу банят. Я видел как это происходило с десятками старых игроков.
Если вам нравится серия age of history просто играйте в бесплатные моды на оригинальной aoh2. Они лучше, чаще обновляются и сделаны людьм которым действительно есть дело. Этот «Definitive Edition» обычный ленивый быстрый способ поднять денег от разработчика, который раз за разом доказывает что он бросит любой проект как только новое сможет принести ему деньги
Не поддерживайте это. Сделайте рефанд как я. Просто играйте в моды

Why couldn't the interface be made like in 3? When will multiplayer or any significant content updates be available?

Łukasz is rolling in fans' money for the third time. I think that support for the game will cease in the same way as in the previous 2nd and 3rd parts.

While maybe my opinion isn't the most informed, as I only played an hour or so of the game, checking things out to see how Age of History 2 has been improved on, I will say something about it, and that is:

THIS GAME IS NOT WORTH ITS CURRENT PRICE.

With how many assets it reuses from both Aoh2 and Aoh3, combined with the lack of significant additions, changes that wouldn't even add up to 4 dollars in value, and gameplay that is remarkably similar to the game that came out back in 2018, I can't recommend you buy this, as its simply not worth it.

Gameplay in particular remains so simplistic, which is my best way to describe it, the new features added for investment and diplomatic/economic relations between countries, while nice in concept, feel like they don't do a whole lot.

The scenarios in game are, practically if not fully, lifted directly from Age of History 3, with no new ones being added.

The AI in AoH2:DE still acts randomly and without logic, and while you could try to argue that it can all be fixed in the pre-game settings, forcing the first-time player to mess with a dozen or so settings before they even start the game, unless they want to experience AI that unifies with countries at random, flails around and attacks its neighbors for no reason, and just generally feels like its running off of random dice, well its just not a good look for the game.

If this had been cheaper, or if we didn't have Age of History 2 easily accessible, with a plethora of existing and upcoming mods made for it, maybe then, Definitive Edition would have value, but right now, it simply isn't enough for anyone to seriously be telling you to buy it.

My writing might come off as a bit of a ramble but I just feel like there needs to be some early warning about this game, if you have Age of History 2 already, this is NOT worth the price.
