i get to character creation but then have an error so it has to close out, is there any way around this?

Gave up trying to run it on my new Windows 10 PC so fired up the old one and downloaded it via Steam but it's giving me the exact same problem in start-up mode. BTW this is Windows 7 it tells me it can't find half the files.
