Buddy Bug Major Update - Online Co-op Now Available!

I. Major Update: Online Co-op is Here!

The long-awaited online co-op mode for Buddy Bug has finished testing and is now officially live! You can now play together with friends who are far away!

Thank you all for your patience and support. Your anticipation has been our greatest motivation, helping our little beetle Buddy take this new step! We hope you have a great time playing in remote two-player mode. If you have any feedback or suggestions, please feel free to share them with us.

Now, let's walk through how to use the new online co-op feature!

Attention: if you have joined our online co-op testing before, don't forget to quit the "testfornetwork" branch and return to "None"!

0. (Important) Save File Selection

A reminder to players eager to jump into online co-op: on the save file screen, you still need to select "Single" first, then follow the steps below to use the online feature. The "Co-Op" option here is still for local co-op mode, so please be careful!

Note for new players: The tutorial must be completed solo. Both players need to finish the tutorial individually before they can return to the home base and use the online co-op feature!

1. How to Start Online Co-op In-Game

1.1 Co-op Entry

After returning to your home base, keep walking right to enter the elevator and go up to the Training Room.
Interact with the co-op device in the Training Room and select "Online Co-op Mode".

1.2 Entering the Co-op Lobby

Method 1: Manually select a game room from the list to join.

Method 2: Enter a specific room by inputting an Invitation Code.

1.3 Private Rooms

Entering a private room requires the correct Invitation Code.

1.4 Creating a Room

Press K to open the creation interface. Select the room type (Public or Private) and press confirm to create. The successfully created room will appear in the corresponding room list based on its type.

1.5 Inviting Friends

After creating a room, return to the Training Room as the Host and wait for players to join. During this time, you can invite friends in two ways:

Press the hotkey to copy the Invitation Code, send it to your friend via message, and have them join by entering the code.
Press the "Invite Friend" hotkey to open your Steam friends list, select a friend, and send a game invitation.

1.6 Successful Connection

When a co-op player successfully joins, they will appear next to the Host character. The Host character should walk right to the elevator to start the game.

1.7 Network Status Monitor

Each player's network connection status is displayed in real-time at the top center of the screen: Green for Good, Yellow for Normal, Red for Poor.

1.8 Exiting Co-op

During an online co-op session, open the ESC menu, switch to the "Menu" tab, and select "Exit Co-op" to manually disconnect and return to the main menu.

II. Other Optimizations

Updates for both Online Co-op and LAN Co-op features.
Fixed a bug where the actual purchase in the shop and the item information displayed were inconsistent during two-player gameplay.
Fixed a bug where, after acquiring Knowledge, the abilities Player 2 actually gained did not match those shown in the ability interface.
Fixed UI misalignment bugs in the Weapon Enhancement and Gadget Modification tabs.

Buddy Bug is about to receive a major update: online co-op is entering its final testing phase before official release! We’re inviting players who love cooperative gameplay and teamwork challenges to help us polish this shared adventure experience.

ːsteamthisːHow to join the playtest:

Search for “Buddy Bug Demo” on Steam and download the free Demo. (Skip this step if you already have it installed.)
In your Steam Library, right-click Buddy Bug Demo and select Properties.
Go to Betas on the left, enter the test password: [c]testfornetwork[/c], then click “Check Code”, followed by the blue “Opt into” button
Once the beta is added, update the game to access the test version. (To leave the beta, return to this menu and opt out.)
Launch the game, select Start Game --> Single, then enter the Training Room to begin online co-op.

Fixed a bug where the UI would allow returning to Buggle Town after defeating the Octopus Boss.
Fixed a bug where the Flying Wheel Ultimate Skill could forcibly displace the Octopus Boss.
Fixed a bug where the Spring Prop occasionally failed to launch characters.
Fixed a bug causing abnormal display of the mask in the Newbie Knowledge Tutorial.
Fixed a bug where players could get stuck on invisible walls in levels and resolved several error reports.

Fixed a bug where thrown gadgets (Oil and Water) could incorrectly trigger projectiles.

Adjusted the sound effects for the "Burrowing Fat Dragon" monster.

Optimized the dynamic visual effects when entering the sewer scene.
Added animated effects to the loading screen.
Added sound effects for the UI performance after defeating a Boss.
Adjusted the attack range of the "Jumping Treasure" summon for the Pet Master Specilization.
Corrected several erroneous descriptions and corresponding images in the Archive.
Optimized the Weapon Upgrade icons.
Improved the synchronization between sound effects and animations for some monsters.
Optimized the bomb interaction for the Blaster Specilization; bombs can now be detonated by any attack that hits them.
Fixed the issue where attack switching wasn't possible during the landing action.
Optimized the priority of attack animation switching for different directions.
Optimized the display priority during NPC dialogues.
Adjusted the shield color of shield-bearing enemies.
Updated the art assets for some gadget tooltip icons.

III. Q&A

Q1: I want Online Co-op!

A: The Online Co-op feature is still under steady development. We hope to release it soon! Please wait patiently. (In the meantime, you could consider using Steam Remote Play Together as an alternative.)

Q2: In Co-op mode, it seems Player 2 can't interact with the Weapon Merchant and the Gym.

A: That's correct. In Local Co-op mode, only Player 1 can perform interactions within the Homestead. However, Gym Talents apply to both players simultaneously, and Player 2 can always participate in weapon selection together with Player 1.

Q3: The game resolution can't be adjusted.

A: Indeed, this feature is not available yet, but it has already been added to our development schedule

Q4: What will be updated in the future?

A: After resolving most of the current issues in the Demo, we will decide on our subsequent optimization plans based on your feedback. A dedicated article will then be published to introduce and explain these future updates. Stay tuned! We look forward to sharing more with you!

Demo feedback :) -- good concept, but too "buggy" for me 😅

I like the aesthetics, I LOVE the insanely creative weapon choices ive not seen anywhere before (lighter and sawblade), the tutorial is good at explaining, chaining devices and weapons for great combos and damage is really nice, the upgrades add a depth layer that's good, and the visuals remind me of a "pixar"-like movie :) Even still, I felt the combat controls were a little "buggy" with delays and cooldowns, and i never figured out how to reliably pull off moves/combos, and platforming wasn't so fun whe...
