It's a pretty good factory game.

It took me a while to warm up to Outworld Station. It seemed a bit simple at first, and in the early game, there's no automated production of raw resources. You spend a lot of time in the early game dragging asteroids to your station to be broken down for raw materials, and that's not all that much fun.

It gets better once you unlock miners, which are stations on larger asteroids with mineral deposits which produce a steady stream of the raw resources you need to feed your station. You also unlock freighters at about the same time, which haul those minerals from the remote asteroids.

Unlike most factory games, it doesn't have belts. Any item can be sent anywhere in your factory, and there's no limit to how many items can be in transit at once. The main limit on logistics is that every factory and storage has a limit to how fast it can send out items. Sometimes you'll upgrade intermediate storage containers just to improve the output speed.

There are 8 maps in total, but it's all part of the same base, since you can build wormholes which transmit items from one map to another. Connecting your various stations is essential, since most maps produce resources that are unique to that map. For example, the gas giant has few minerals, but produces unlimited hydrogen, which you need to fuel your fusion generators on the other maps.

There's a very mild base defense aspect. Most of the maps have periodic meteor strikes, which must be destroyed before they hit your base. Initially you have to do this yourself, but fairly early you unlock automated defense turrets that can do the job for you. Eventually you get shields which give your base complete immunity to all damage. Which you need because some later-game attacks cannot be destroyed by turrets.

There are also enemy ships on the maps. Generally these leave your base alone, and you only have to fight them while you're exploring and clearing areas. They do occasionally wander into range of your base, but that's much less common than meteors.

It's pretty low pressure, since you can repair any damage to your base for free. All it costs is your time.

One thing that threw me is that you build a variety of spaceships, but the spaceships don't do anything. The scouts can't scout for you, and the military ships can't defend your base. You only build ships to fulfill objectives, like "build 25 of this type of ship." The military ships do all their fighting off-screen.

Later game spaceships also have the annoying trait of exploding if you don't fill their fuel tanks soon after they're built, which is extremely silly. You'd think the fusion reactors on these ships would be perfectly safe if they have no fuel in them. The upshot of this is that the game is punishing you if your fueling infrastructure can't keep pace with your ship production, which tends to lead to micromanagement.

The objectives are what drive the game, and sometimes they're pretty tedious, because it can take hours to complete a ship order even if everything is working perfectly and you're consuming the entire output of all the mineral deposits available.

The game has a pretty satisfying progression, with each new map introducing new resources and new parts to build with those resources. There are also alternate recipes you can unlock, so some items are progressively cheaper to produce. Which you need since the sheer material demand of the late game is enormous. For example, each solar panel only produces about 25-35 MW, and by the end of the game, I was producing about 120,000 MW, mostly from antimatter.

It's kind of a play-once kind of game, since it's driven by objectives. You can continue to play and expand after finishing the campaign, but the maps are finite, and there's no long-term resource sink like in Factorio, so there's not a lot of reason to do so. It took me a total of 82 hours to finish everything.

This game leaves behind some active dll's, services and other items even after uninstalled. These items report back as trojans.

Take it for what you will.

Just to be clear, this is not just some false positive thing that people will certainly claim. The remnant directory could not be deleted. None of the files in that directory could be deleted. At least one of the dll's was keeping a service running.

I had to use a very aggressive 3rd party program to remove the files and the directory.

I wanted to love this game, but its more like a next-next-next mobile game in a factorio-space-setting.
