Feeling a tad peckish patiently awaiting the release of 'Slay the Spire 2'? If you enjoy deck builders and are a foodie, then this game offers a unique take on the dungeon crawling experience for a reasonable price. The monsters in these dungeons are hungry and as the princess of the castle, it is your job to whip them up tasty treats to save your kingdom. The British and Irish focused lore and meals added a really nice touch and some comical effect for me at least. Like mushy peas? Yall's CANNOT be for real rn...haha XD

Honestly, this is a refreshing palate cleanser to the usual deck building models. Instead of doing damage to the monsters, you are trying to satisfy their hunger and figuring out their likes and dislikes, while also taking into consideration their cravings. You collect recipes and ingredients. Before venturing off you cook up your deck before entering the dungeon, picking what dishes you want to bring along. Every dish has different flavour profiles and benefits. You can equip cookware offering different perks. Upon successfully satiating a monsters hunger, you collect loot varying from new recipes, gold and spices to amplify your dishes (wait, what… the British use spices?? >.> KIDDING LOL) Like other dungeon crawlers, you get to choose your pathway which triggers different events, so no run ever feels the same.

This game is in EA but I haven't encountered any problems so far. It runs comfortably and flawlessly on the steam deck. I like how they have streamlined the buffs and ingredients, taking away a lot of cumbersome guesswork. When you collect ingredient rewards to restock your pantry, you get a choice of ingredients. Before you pick, it lets you know how many recipes in your deck currently use that ingredient. Similarly, as you apply buffs to the monsters by feeding them certain dishes, the "damage" on your cards is adjusted based on the existing buffs. Just nice QOL features and demonstrates attention to detail. My only complaint so far is that it seems a bit too easy. Some of the food buffs and the stacking of abilities seem overpowered.

But the best part... is that you get a kitty companion.

Update: if any features could be added, it would be nice if you could customize your character (and the cat too).

In addition, I think that the likes and dislikes should be randomized every new run (or the monsters in the dungeons randomized) to keep the challenge aspect up. There is a certain level of predictibiity and it takes away from the fun. Once you discover the monsters likes and dislikes, it is easy to just construct specialized decks for that run because you know what monsters are in each dungeon.

If you like card-based games, and/or casual strategy adventures with some rouge-lite elements, this game is for you!!

I immediately loved the music which gave off a great vibe, followed by the cute art, smooth animation, and quirky flavor text!!

Definitely a unique take on the genre and worth checking out; excited to play more and see what else is in the works!!
