Behind the Magic ✨ | Designing Kei!

We're hard at work to bring you some very exciting news! In the meantime, we'd love to share with you our (almost final!) "Meet The Characters" post!

Today, let's chat about Kei! 🍳

Initial sketches ✍️

When we started designing Kei, we kept coming back to one question: how do you draw someone who has lost their "spark"? Tired? Drained? Exhausted?

Kei is our incredible master chef, who you’ll meet in Chapter 4 of The Witch’s Bakery. His story revolves around the emotion of anger, where he challenges Lunne to be better, even though he’s struggling with his own ambition. We wanted his design to feel like a man who has seen it all, appearing a bit closed off and weary from the heat of the kitchen.

In these first sketches, we played a lot with his morphology. We experimented with a variety of silhouettes, we initially associated 'tired' with leaner, angular shapes - someone who is easy to hide, blend in with the crowd or the environment he is in.
But then we had a thought: Kei is a big personality, and we wanted that to come through his design. Despite losing his 'spark', we didn't want him to look faded in the same way. Some of us react to our emotions differently, and we thought choosing to keep Kei's strong character principals in his design would be the better option. Eventually, Kei became a tall, imposing figure, that you cannot miss.

He can feel unreachable, but not in the sense of disappearance and fading & getting smaller. In his design, he's almost like a mountain - a challenge to reach; but with a hint that, deep down, he’s actually really sweet.

Bringing emotion to life 🔥

In this phase of Kei’s design, we shifted from broad shapes to the finer details of his personality. While his overall vibe still says, "I’m the boss here," we began refining how his exhaustion translates visually.

We leaned into a classic, grounded look- mixing professional chef coats with casual elements like suspenders and rolled-up sleeves. Choosing the colors was a huge decision! To give a nod to his chapter’s theme of anger, we played around with dark, simmering tones and deep reds/blues. This subtle shift allowed us to explore Kei’s complexity; the red isn't just about "fury," it's also about the passion he’s trying to find again. Beneath that tough, tall exterior is a palette that feels warm and lived-in.

Today, let's chat about Mawuli!

When we started designing Mawuli, we kept coming back to one question: what actually makes someone cool?Hip?
Swag?
WHAT'S THE RIGHT WORD???

Mawuli is a 19-year-old streamer & content creator, who will meet Lunne and help her gain popularity (and just happens to be Mirembe's big brother! 👀).

He has a big personality and a natural flair for the spotlight: we wanted his design to feel bold, confident, and a little larger than life. In these first sketches, we played a lot with shape and feeling, messing with silhouettes, hairstyles, layered outfits, and eye-catching accessories to see what really made him stand out at a glance

A lot of the early exploration was about energy. His relaxed posture, expressive gestures, and shifting hairstyles all help sell that effortless confidence: the kind of person who walks into a room and immediately owns it without trying too hard.

We leaned into modern streetwear, mixing volume, straps, jewelry, and asymmetry to find that sweet spot between curated and chaotic. Through these sketches, Mawuli starts to feel less like “a cool character” and more like someone who knows exactly who he is, and isn’t afraid to show it.

In this phase of Mawuli’s design, we shifted the focus from bold experimentation to emotional nuance. While his overall vibe still says, “I want to be seen. I want to stand out,” we began refining how that visibility translates visually. The silhouettes remain modern and expressive - baggy fits, layered pieces, statement accessories - but we focused on intentional visual storytelling (NO SPOILERS!).

Softening the color palette was a key decision. Instead of contrasts, we imagined tones that sit closer together - muted, cohesive, almost restrained. This subtle shift allows us to explore another side of Mawuli. Beneath the confident streamer persona, there’s vulnerability. He still stands out, and even has his official streamer logo on his shirt (you can never miss a self-promo opportunity) but now there’s a quiet suggestion that being seen might also be something more to it!

🆕 Game updates!

Chapter 5 is officially integrated! 📖

The oven is heating up! We’re thrilled to announce that Chapter 5 is now integrated and we are currently finalizing all the magical content.

In this chapter, you’ll meet a brand-new face: Sophie! 📸

She’s a sharp-witted journalist who finds herself reporting on a certain mysterious, magical bakery. Is she there for a story, or is there more to her visit?

Note: The assets for Sophie are still a Work in Progress (WIP), but we couldn't wait to introduce her!

With Chapter 5 moving along, we are officially looking toward the horizon.

We’ve been busy polishing previous chapters to make the experience smooth!

Atelier bug and request

Hello! I'm about 30 minutes in and I really like what I see so far. I am concerned that there are no graphic settings- The game launches on my primary monitor but if I need to use my other monitors for anything, the mouse is locked to the game. If I alt+tab, it minimizes the whole game. If there is a way to a windowed-fullscreen option, that would be greatly apprecited!

Now for the bug- when I opened the Atelier, there was no option to go back to the previous bag. I pressed esc and space and...

can't play

I don't know if it's a bug, my pc or a mix of both but I can't even launch the game, I get an error code stating that I don't have any licenses to play.

Wrong monitor

The game opened on my second monitor which is inferior to my main one and I can't change game to windowed or borderless and there is no way to move it to my main screen... alt+enter doen't work.

Impossible d'installer la démo

Bonjour à tous et à toutes, savoir si je suis le seul a avoir le problème, j'ai essayé d'installer la démo et steam me dit qu'elle ne pèse que 26 octet et quand je lance le jeu, il me dit qu'il manque l'exécutable. Je suis le seul dans ce cas?
