Cool concept, absolutely awful execution.

Let It Die: Inferno is a perfect example of a game with an incredible idea and world that is completely undermined by baffling, player-hostile design decisions. The post-apocalyptic, punk-horror aesthetic is genuinely interesting, the tower concept is intriguing, and the tone has a lot of personality. Unfortunately, once you actually start playing, nearly every system feels like it’s working against you instead of engaging you.

The gameplay is where everything falls apart. Combat is clunky, inconsistent, and often unfair rather than challenging. Enemy damage spikes feel arbitrary, hit detection is unreliable, and deaths frequently feel unavoidable instead of earned. Inferno in particular leans heavily into cheap difficulty rather than meaningful mastery—enemies become damage sponges while simultaneously deleting your character in seconds, turning encounters into frustrating endurance checks instead of skill-based fights.

Progression is another major issue. The grind is excessive to the point of absurdity, clearly designed to push players toward monetization rather than reward effort or skill. Materials, upgrades, and fighter management feel intentionally slowed down, and losing progress after a death doesn’t feel tense or exciting—it just feels punishing and disrespectful of the player’s time. Roguelike elements should encourage smart decision-making; here they mostly encourage frustration and repetition.

Weapon and equipment balance is wildly inconsistent. Some builds feel mandatory while others are functionally useless, especially in Inferno. Experimentation is discouraged because the cost of failure is so high. Instead of rewarding creativity, the game funnels you into narrow, “correct” choices if you want any chance of survival.

The design philosophy behind Inferno seems to prioritize frustration over fun. Difficulty is achieved through inflated stats, unavoidable damage, and overwhelming enemy placements rather than thoughtful mechanics or interesting encounters. It gives the impression that the mode exists less as a rewarding endgame challenge and more as a punishment for players who dared to keep going.

What makes all of this worse is that the world, music, and aesthetic are genuinely great. The atmosphere hints at a far better game buried underneath layers of bad decisions. Let It Die could have been a cult classic built around tight combat and meaningful risk. Instead, Inferno highlights everything wrong with the game’s systems and magnifies them to an unbearable degree.

In the end, Let It Die: Inferno isn’t challenging in a satisfying way—it’s exhausting. The idea and world deserve praise, but the gameplay and design choices make it hard to recommend to anyone except the most masochistic players. Potential wasted on frustration.

This is the worst game I've played this year, without a shadow of a doubt. Just play the original. It's free, infinitely better, and is getting an offline mode. ♥♥♥♥ this game
