This Steam release is the vanilla version of the game. Rebellion has confirmed that they currently don't plan updates or remasters at this point in time. This version has the same files as the 2005/2006 retail release. Empire Earth II is updated to ver. 1.2 and Empire Earth II: The Art of Supremacy is updated to ver. 1.0. To be fair, the only difference is that two of the 4:3 screen resolutions were replaced to max. 1920x1080. 4k or ultrawide resolutions are not available.

If you're looking for a working online multiplayer, bug and crash fixes, all screen resolutions support (including 8K and ultrawide, with automatic font scaling), enhanced music and sounds, a proper DirectX 9 support, better camera zoom settings and hundreds of new features that don't change the original game balance nor strategy - you can install Unofficial Patch 1.6 for free, which is compatible with this Steam version.

The Unofficial Patch 1.6 (UP1.6) is a free community update. It has been developed since 2014, with dedication and regular monthly updates ever since - and it is still updated today.

The game was part of my childhood, but I hoped they adding some services (Steam Cloud, native 16:9 support without any problems), but nothing can be perfect.. Sadly, Steam overlay also not working. The good news is, it runs perfectly without any modification.
Maybe I'm noob, normal difficulty is hard as me. If you aren't professional RTS player, you should play easiest difficulty.
