Anyone knows how to get this one? I tried dying in the first fight, didn't work

I just started playing. Fun game but I just got to the 3rd (or 4th?) boss and it's this rectangular black rod called Quadriel. The ground disappears under him as he moves, and I can't target him with any attack. Not even rockets. I eventually just got tired of not being able to do anything at all, so I just jumped in the pit and ended my run. That was sad. I really couldn't figure out anything else to do. Has anyone else found a way to interact with him?...

My frame rate's feeling pretty choppy. It's especially bad when the camera moves, either when I move it manually or due to ongoing action. I think I'm seeing it elsewhere too; when I hover over something, the description feels like it's taking just a bit too long to appear. Anyone else getting this issue, or have any idea how to fix it?...

So, rockets in this game system have several big advantages: 1. Ingore obstacles and line of sight. 2. Huge range without any directional shenanigans. 3. Almost zero collaterial damage. Is there any reason to even consider other weapons, when I can sit in the same place and bombard entire battlefield with Tempest/EMP rockets?...
