man, my childhood was basically this game. i was like 9 or 10, and the adrenaline i got from just discovering stuff was unreal. i used to play it every day, no breaks lol. specifically remember that rpg ammo anxiety... id be sweating hoping i wouldnt run out before the tanks showed up. it was so damn hard but thats what made it good.

i played all the classics back then.. bf1942, desert combat, mohaa, vice city, splinter cell, mafia... loved em all. but this was something else. the gameplay and the ai for both enemies and the squad was just on a different level entirely.

and tbh i miss when games actually respected ur brain. no hand holding, no map markers every 2 seconds, just u and the mission. we didnt realize we were making core memories back then, we just thought we were playing a game. turns out, it was the best part of growing up.

Okay, I admit... thumbs up is only for nostalgia's sake. My son and I loved this game on PS. I'm not sure what the deal is with the Steam version - it's hardly playable! OPTIONS give you the option of configuring the Keys for different actions... but then it doesn't allow you to configure the keys for different actions. LOL Then your soldier gets stuck on literally every drop off... even in basic training. You just get lodged in the air. Sometimes you can back up or side step back to solid ground, sometimes you just get stuck and have to restart. Even switching team members and calling a formation, "On me!" leaves the stuck soldier hanging in the air. And WTF... SAVE GAME doesn't work??? I finished the first mission and Saved Game and logged back in... no saved game. I cannot continue where I left off. So there's no way for me to enjoy the other missions unless I leave the game running non-stop or binge the game. Come on people! GROK it for a fix or something. It ain't rocket science.

This game is great and an absolute classic, but this pc version is basically unplayable. I've attempted to play this game on three different computers over the years, but have always run into issues with crazy bugs, getting constantly soft locked on levels, and the weirdest mouse sensitivity I've ever experienced which all makes it very difficult to get through any levels.
