are some romances locked behind playing as a certain type of mage?

I played as a mender and I'm pretty sure I only got romances choices for KIm Elias and Hannah I don't think I ever got one with puk or with catherine, so my assumption is that probably them plus Elias are restricted depending on discipline you picked at the character creation? idk if sex is also a restriction but I'm pretty sure it wasn't in the first game so I don't think it would be one in this second game...

Just finished my playthrough of the game, the hard work and quality of this put in is really cool to see how it's grown from the first: also nice that your choices there affect the plot in bigger ways than you might expect!

I am a little too easily amused at 'yes, find the cats' being an achivement here, but I am glad that the 'major puzzle' of this game is a lot more simple than the potion making one from the first because the constant of explosions of THAT are something i am GLAD didn't come back, gosh.

Story and characters are engaging, as are the choices you make affecting in big ways - a marvelous sequel and a choices matter game I highly reccomend playing AFTER the first game due to the 'carrying over choices from frist game' thing, which i havent seen many sequels do as well, it's a cool mechanic! Hope to see it again in future, and more from the folks who made this! :)

So I've now done two playthroughs so I think I'm ready to write a review now.

Overall the game is a lot more fleshed out than it's predecessor in almost all aspects and has amazing character writing. I particularly enjoyed the characterisation for Catherine and her friends and it's really cool seeing their development over the course of the game.
The unique major/background you can choose (or at least Mender and Illusionist) also have a surprisingly large influence on the choices you can make most of the time, tho of course there are limitations here and there in terms of reactivity.
Despite Arcadia Fallen II mainly being character-driven the overarching story (despite not all plot threads being neatly resolved) is also very good and I think fits thematically both as a standalone experience and as a sequel to the first game.

My only issues with the game is that the ending felt a bit rushed and despite me picking exactly the opposite choices in my second playthrough most of the characters pretty much ended up in the exact same spots which felt a bit weird and hurts replayability a tad.

For those who played the first game, it's a complete improvement on every level.

Only a few hours in, but I have enjoyed every bit of it. It's an exciting visual novel with a great premise I plan to replay once finished with my first playthrough.

Also Puk needs to stop doing that "stare" I don't know what she knows but but it needs to stop.

Steam Cloud Saves on Linux

It seems Steam cloud saves don't quite work on linux. I was mostly playing on the steam deck but then tried to play on my desktop (Also linux) but the saves weren't there so I had to manually move them over. Great game so far otherwise though.

wondering how much the sequel depends on knowing the first game? Would I benefit from reading a synopsis of the first game or is it mostly stand-alone?

In one of the ending, Kim gets to go to academy, I think it will be cool if we can meet him and see how he's doing.
