Review: Excidio

Excidio has a fantastic foundation, particularly regarding its core concept and physics system. When I’m in a match, whether I'm fighting other titans or leveling cities, I can’t help but fully immerse myself in the roleplay. However, there are a few missing elements keeping this game from becoming legendary.

*The Need for a Proper Rogue-lite Mode*

I kept wishing for a Vampire Survivors-style mode—one where leveling up grants wild new abilities and you survive as long as possible against escalating odds. While a progression system exists, it’s currently very basic and doesn’t add much depth. Introducing a robust rogue-lite loop where adding new abilities and/or Titan evolutions, either in a sequel or a major update, could easily push this game into the mainstream.

*Combat & Physics*

The game is addictive and charming, but I’d like to see the physics play a larger role in combat. Currently, getting "stun locked" is frustrating; it is far more satisfying (and immersive) when hits resulted in my character being physically hurled into a building. Adding more physics based combat scenarios would help a lot imo.

*Immersion breaking moments*

Random titans spawning in from mid air or tanks falling from the sky does take some of the immersion away. Maybe have a helicopter drop them in or titans coming out of the ground, it would help a lot with immersion.

*User Interface*

My only other major criticism is the clunky UI. The menus don’t feel particularly clean or modern, though they are at least functional.

*Final Thoughts*

Despite these gripes, Excidio is still one of the better Kaiju games on the market. It has a great "base," and with a little more polish and a more engaging endgame, it could be something truly special.

I love the potential, I am hopeful for what could be.

Fans of the War of The Monsters series rejoice! Something close to source material that isn't gigabash has finally come into reality. I genuinely look forward to this game growing and am excited to see what it can grow into to fulfill the kaiju sim niche.
