I see a lot of Flask but I dont really know what the use of them? Is there any permanent effect if I use it? Also is it for my Pokemon or for my character?

I am trying to get the Red Essence (maybe fire) to make a Potion. And seriously do I really need an Essence to make Potion? And how about all other Essence, where can I get them all. TY

So its been 2 days for me to look for this Norm NPC or the Carpenter so I can continue the Boat Quests. But until this 2 days, I am unable to find him and Idk where he live because the UI is not good. Also this Search The Beach side quest where I need to dig something in the Tiny Beach, I have no idea what to do. I dug the ground and I got about 23 letters, but I cannot use it and the quest does not progress either no matter how may letters I got. Could someone really help me with those 2 quests and also ...
