I wish I liked this game, it's artsy and colorful, and cute.
But I don't!

The biggest issue is the controls, or rather the isometric drawing of the world.
The world is drawn in what's known as 2.5D, forced perspective, which makes navigating it, shall we say counter-intuitive.
Do I need to go "up" or "left"?

Now, since there's no intro, no tutorial, no nothing, you figure out yourself you use WASD to move your character around.
Or the arrow keys, yes, those work as well.
Or the mouse, if you press-and-hold, but then its a move as long as you keep the mouse pressed, not point-and-click.
Did I mention you figure all that on your own, because nowhere does the game offer any kind of tutorial?!

Also, this is a maze game, so you need to solve a maze.
A very big maze, with many, many wrong turns and dead-ends.
That you need to navigate using unintuitive controls.
There's also no zoom-out feature to help you plan ahead, sure as hell no overview map.
Just wander around till you find the correct paths.

Yes, I know that's what mazes are about, but in mazes you get in newspapers, you see the entire thing upfront, and can plan and calculate, you don't just wander around hoping this particular path doesn't EVENTUALLY lead to a dead-end.

And the world is dynamic: things, obstacles, move around, so if you thought you had the right path... think again!
Of course those objects only move on scripted trigger points reached by your character, so the "Duh!" moment is all the more intensified.

I actually read other reviews comment that eventually you get to a stage in the game introducing one-pass only passages, that may not be the correct path to the solution, forcing you to reload the level altogether.
Luckily for my sanity, I quit this game long before I reached that abomination.

As for story, it exists, and apparently the game is a sort of recreation of a famous child's story (famous, that is, in the country of its origin, not worldwide).
Could be... I don't know the original story, and the GAME's story is, I'm sorry to say, boring.
Not just to me, I explained it to my 5yo as I played - he didn't seem excited either.

And I didn't even touch on the bonuses you can collect by finding them while idling through the maze, hoping this one path is the solution - an average of 9 per level, which if you're a completionist like myself, is going to haunt you and prolong your game time way over what it should be.

Maybe others truly enjoyed this game, good for them.
I rage-quit in less than an hour, not to play this one ever again.
Too boring, too annoying, too clancky controls.

This is a truly wonderful game. There are so many details to every maze that keep it from being boring, and there are so many easter eggs and things to achieve outside of the collectibles in each level, which also enhances the quality of the gameplay. Truly a stellar game.

Despite its simple concept and traditional maze-based gameplay, Labyrinth City: Pierre the Maze Detective delivers a truly delightful experience thanks to its richly detailed hand-drawn art, vibrant world full of charming interactions, and the joy of exploring each beautifully crafted scene; while it may be relatively short and not particularly challenging, its visual charm and relaxing atmosphere make it stand out as a memorable and enjoyable game, making it fair to describe it as excellent, especially for players who appreciate cozy, artistic experiences.
