This was the first game I bought with the money my dad gave me from the CD store down the street, after the computer technician came to our house in 2009 to set up our internet and computer. The computer and internet were already set up when I got home. I remember running to the CD store to buy this game, still carrying my heavy school bag and wearing my uniform. When I think back now on how I played for hours on end without knowing a single word of English, without knowing the settings, and probably not even knowing how to turn down the music volume, it still makes me a little sad. Back when we had nothing, when there were no reward systems, competitive systems, or microtransactions in games to manipulate us how we used to have fun without being poisoned by them.

Whenever I recall how excitedly I’d tell my friends about the game after playing it, how we’d play for hours with the “if you die, it’s my turn” mentality, and how I’d rush to the computer with excitement whenever my older brother was out, I can’t help but smile. The strangest part is that even when I play this game again today, years later, I still remember exactly which parts of the game used to frustrate me, which quests I didn’t understand because I didn’t know English, how I never really grasped the story, and—even if not every single one—which sections I died in, and I’m taking screenshots of them.

There’s no need to describe Freedom Fighters’ gameplay, story, graphics, or atmosphere. Some games are just like that. Whether these elements are good or bad, or what the Steam ratings or Metacritic score might be, none of that means anything to you. Because you played this game during the best time of your life, in another world, and at your very best. A MASTERPIECE. I can’t wait to tell my kids about you

Just get a mapping app like reWSAD or something.

This game deserves a reboot, it was great. When you're in an area, it can have something like a Heliport where a chopper is providing air cover to other parts of the map, requiring you to blow it up so you can complete objectives there. There are bridges where APCs regularly send in reinforcements, making overcoming enemy resistance a challenge, so when you take out those bridges the waves become more managable.

As you complete objectives, your influence in your rebel alliance grows, and you're able to recruit followers and give squad commands to defend an area, follow, or attack enemies.

This was a pioneer in such mechanics, and 23 years later, the advancements in gaming could give it an epic facelift and bring new life to a certified hood classic.

One of my favorite childhood games. I remember playing it at my grandma's house in the summer on my brother's laptop—those were the happy days of my childhood, without DLC, without AI, without paid content. I absolutely love this game
