This update is designed to let players enjoy more of the game's content without unlocking Custom Parties. Specifically, a new Sergeant Party has been added for players who enjoy commanding larger groups, and some races can now be changed in the default Dungeon Mode parties. A new beastfolk race, the Feline, has also been added. I wanted to add a cute race!

Getting 2 instead of 3 soul stones in quest mode

On the "hunt" missions in quest mode, I noticed that when I pick up 3 soul stones or kill all the enemies with 3 soul stones on the map, it sometimes only gives me 2 instead of 3 after the mission ends. is this working as intended? I didn't notice this when playing dungeon mode....

What is abyssal gate dungeon mode?

It's not explained anywhere in the game how to play this mode. The only place it's mentioned at all is on the unlock screen. What game mode is this? How do I access it?

Did you enjoy Into the Breach or Tactics Ogre? Did you love diving into the Deep Dungeon or experimenting with random encounters in Final Fantasy Tactics? Do you like roguelikes? Are you fine with a game that skips story to focus entirely on deep, rewarding combat?

If you answered yes to most of the above, Crawl Tactics is absolutely for you. It’s a gem for anyone who enjoys TRPG/SRPG combat and roguelike mechanics.

The game’s early release looked rough, but since the December 11, 2025 v3.0 patch and subsequent updates, the developer has clearly put in serious work improving it.

Pros:

Tactical combat
Weather, elevation, traps, terrain reactions, chain reactions, party alignment, light resource management, light base management (in Quest mode), roster decisions, and occasional events all come together beautifully.
Unit customization
A large ~40 class roster, class stat growths, stat‑up choices, class abilities, skill upgrades, subclasses (for humans), beast races, class rebirth, and equipment decisions provide excellent depth.
Two play modes
A long‑term Quest mode with base progression, or a single‑run Dungeon mode with multiple starting party options for replayability.
Enemy and map variety
Usually good and actively affects what units you consider to counter enemy composition, what abilities to swap in, and your approach to the map conditions.
Roguelike mechanics
They fit naturally into the tactical framework.

Neutral:

Class balance
Most of the ~40 classes are fun and have a niche, but a few feel outclassed or too situational.
Soundtrack
Solid, but not memorable. Nothing bad, nothing standout.
UI
Tooltips can be unclear, and some mechanics require checking Community Discussions. The encyclopedia helps, and the UI has improved over time with ongoing iteration.
Grind
Default difficulty settings can feel grindy, but difficulty options let you boost experience gain and other modifiers, hence not a con. Long-term progression is tied to grinding out a limited resource. If you enjoy the combat, then new play options naturally open up as you finish experimenting with your current options. Some may even prefer this.
Events and quests
They add light variety but rarely change tactical decision‑making in a meaningful way.

Cons:

No story.
This can be a pretty massive con and a reason to skip the game.
Limited objective variety
Most missions boil down to “defeat the enemy.” Compared to other SRPGs/TRPGs, objective diversity is lacking.

Weird:

Gender‑related mechanics
There’s a Jealous of Female effect that blocks recruiting more female units, event female units sometimes require a male or female leader, and an all female enemy group that specifically targets male‑led parties.
Note, there is no Jealous of Male equivalent effect, nor event male units requiring specifically a male or female leader, nor all male enemy groups targeting female‑led parties.

tldr

A great combat‑only TRPG/SRPG with roguelike elements that scratches the Tactics Ogre or Final Fantasy Tactics strategy itch. Fully recommended if you don’t mind the lack of story and want 60–100+ hours of excellent tactical combat.

Memory Leak Issue on Linux under Proton

I'm running this game under Proton on Steam OS, and I've noticed through the System Monitor utility that this game consumes more and more RAM as it runs, eventually leading to a total hardlock of the entire system once RAM has been depleted. Closing the application does not clear up the memory usage either. Also, the game doesn't show up as an application or process under the system monitor when it should be visible. This may have something to do with the memory leak issue this game has....

Questions & improvements (playing on android mobile)::

Questions 1) Can you 1 shot merchants to make them die, so they don't flee after 1 hit? 2) How much xp do you get when defeating enemies/merchants/neutral parties etc.? How is xp calculated? 3) Do you get your money back & other resources like soulstones, items sold etc., when killing neutral parties/merchants or events where someone is hired, then killed by you? 4) Does killing merchants/mercenaries or anyone for hire, count as 'neutral parties' for the achievement 'true evil? (Kill 30 neutral partie...

Crawl Tactics Mobile Version Pre-Registration Now Open

8 May

While many players prefer playing on PC, we decided to release a mobile version as well in order to meet the expectations of those who were looking forward to a mobile release like the previous title, SFD.The mobile version contains the same content as the Steam version, though Mods and Skirmish will be limited.

Pre-registration pages are already available on the Google Play Store and Apple App Store, and the official release is scheduled for May 13. (Unfortunately, purchases from Chinese app stores will likely not be possible due to licensing and approval issues.)
