why is keybinding not a thing, this game does not work very well with keyboard on what the keys are set as....

I've spent two days checking trash cans and boxes for gloves and band-aids to upgrade my house, but can't find them anywhere. Do they just have a very low drop rate, or am I looking in the wrong spots?
