impossible of jumping the first moving platform . The character is glue on the platform. Please fix thanks

I was really liking this game -- it was fun, if a bit on the easy side. Suddenly, in the later levels, there is a very difficult level, followed by a very easy level which I think is the second last one. But the last level takes the cake. As far as I can see, there's a single checkpoint. And then tons of instant death opportunities and a pretty long slog ahead. One mistake and it's all the way back. I have been trying to play through the volcano level for about an hour now and its impossible. the character gets stuck on the moving platforms at the start of the level and cant move without jumping, making it impossible to even make the first jump. the character simply cant jump far enough to cover the gap. Am i missing something? Are the platforms bugged to make the character unable to move when on them? I don't get it....
