THIS GAME IS SELF-CARE!

Chicory stands out for its creativity both in gameplay and story.

Gameplay:
By "creative", I'm not talking about the "paint the world" mechanic, which is sometimes clunky, especially before you get the paint bucket brush style during the early third of the game. I'm talking about how it blends platforming + puzzle + RPG + bullet hell (for the boss fights). It keeps you on your toes especially during boss combats because you need to dodge with one joystick and attack with the other and the trigger. The puzzles are challenging both in the logic and the spatial aspect, though a couple are artificially made hard because of the top-down view, but for that you can rely on shadows.

Story:
Though presented in a cute way with whimsical characters, the underlying argument about the effects of depression is dark and somber, but kept just below the surface. But when it breaks through to the player, and slaps you in the face in the form of an amazing soundtrack, sound effects and color, it almost feels like a horror game, especially when surrounded with so much cute. Characters are all so relatable and at times it feels like you're talking to real persons in your life. But when the weight of restoring color the world starts to drag you down, everyone has uplifting and encouraging words for you. The emotional highlight for me was that you can call your folks using phone booths and get directions on what to do next, with your mom just giving general directions and being just the right amount of annoying, and your dad giving you the detailed info and scoop, but being a bit aloof.

Who is not this game for?
Gamers from the manosphere or who are uncomfortable with being vulnerable, bullies and others that think the world need more "masculine energy" :D

All others, don't hesitate to try it!

Not normally an art person but this is a great game.
