HorrorVale is one of the strongest RPG Maker games I've played in some time. A huge amount of effort was put into it, and it shows, from the massive amount of characters to the number of quests, fights, details, sprites, and just general additional content (like a certain late game bonus dungeon). The world feels detailed (but not in an "aggressively shoves the worldbuilding at you" way), and the story is strong and executed well from start to finish. There's also a lot of small details put into things (my favorite example is, unfortunately, a spoiler) that help make it all work well.

The game is also fun to play. The substantial amount of characters means that there are a lot of different possible parties, and with the shared experience, if you want to try changing up your party, it doesn't feel bad (which can be a problem in a lot of games with a lot of party members). Most of the characters also do a pretty good job with having a relatively distinct feeling and being usable (not all of them, but with the number of potential parties, that's not really a surprise). I found the difficulty a bit on the easier end beyond a couple of fights, but not in a boring or dull way (and some of the bonus bosses present a good challenge).

It's also worth noting that the game isn't really a horror game, more a love letter to horror (and the description says as much). It's certainly got intimidating moments (the red-name enemy near the start of the third act, for instance), but it's not really "horror" per say.

Excellent game that I recommend a good playthrough of.
