It's a fun story with a great cast of characters.

I'm actually surprised by how much I loved the dispatching part of the game. I wish there was a post-game that let you keep going.

I look forward to what the modding community does with this game. The framework is there for something great, and I wouldn't necessarily say it's bad. It perfectly encapsulates the idea of, "a mile wide but an inch deep."

The Good
-Ship Building: Probably my favorite part of the game. You can really get creative, though some serious quality of life improvements are needed to make it better.
-The gun play: I didn't want to say combat as a whole is good because some aspects of it really annoy me. However, I really like the gun mechanics. I'm not an FPS person so I like that things such as accuracy are stats and not entirely based on cursor aim. Makes it feel a little more immersive I suppose.
-Environments: The planets are beautiful, and even though the exploration is very shallow, the sights are nice.
-It Works: Probably Bethesda's cleanest release to date. Sure there are some bugs here and there, but nothing compared to their past releases.

The Mid
-City/Settlements: I don't want to be too unfair because I don't know how feasible something like this is with current technology. But the cities feel way too small, lack diversity in assets, and just overall feel lifeless. I wish more care was put into giving each city its own identity outside of what its corresponding faction represents. The fact that TerraBrew is the only coffee shop in the galaxy also really takes me out the experience.
-Companions: A lot better than Skyrim's companions, but a big downgrade from Fallout 4's companions. They all feel pretty shallow. Sarah's backstory hooked me at first, and without spoiling anything I was disappointed in how her character arc really fizzles out. There's a sort of resolution, but it's lackluster and feels like an afterthought.
-Combat: Feels like standard Bethesda combat, with slight improvements. Low-G and zero-G combat is a nice change of pace. However, the enemy scaling is pretty whack and enemies become more like bullet sponges the more you level up. It's actually insane how much health high level enemies have. It just makes combat feel tedious as there aren't any exciting mechanics being added. Just take cover, dodge, and shoot.
-Space Combat: Not bad, but like everything in this game, very shallow and underdeveloped. I like the idea of rerouting power to different ship systems, but it ends up being a nonfactor in combat. Again, I think the problem comes with how enemy HP and damage scale. Rerouting power to your engines to speed up and outmaneuvre the enemy doesn't matter when it seems you're meant to just lock on and spam missiles until they're dead.
-Main Quest: Not great, not terrible. Standard Bethesda main questline.

The Bad
-Side Quests: The reason this is bad and the main quest is mid is because the side quests are usually pretty good in Bethesda Games if not one of the best parts. The side quests in this game imo are so boring and again, lack any real depth. The illusion of choice runs rampant and most quests have one outcome. One very predictable outcome. Which brings me to my next point.
-Dialogue and Character Choice: Feels almost nonexistent. As far as quests go, this game very much feels on-rails. Also most named characters (if not all of them) are essential. They cannot die unless they're scripted to. This isn't automatically a bad thing, but it's egregious in this game. You can't go off the beaten path at all, and that's very frustrating to me.
-Progression: Vital skills are tied to the perk system. Standard things like stealth, lockpicking, pickpocketing, and persuasion are locked behind level perks.
-Outposts: Honestly a mess of a system. It seems like their intentions were to have you make outposts that let you farm and rotate resources on different planets to assist with building and upgrading your weapons/suits. However, it's very buggy and not intuitive. It's easier to build a ship with a crapton of storage and move everything that way, rendering outposts useless outside of basebuilding for fun. Even then, options are very limited compared to other games.

Personally, I'd say this game is okay, but it's below average for Bethesda which is why I don't recommend it.

FromSoftware's magnum opus

For anyone intimidated by the difficulty due to FromSoftware's reputation. Firstly, I understand, no shame. However, In my opinion, this is the most accessible of their games. This game can be as brutally difficult as you want it be, or as easy as you want it to be. If you get stuck on a boss or area, that's okay, there's plenty more to explore. You can always come back later and try again when you're a higher level.

Early Access Review
Short and sweet

I was frustrated at first because I kept getting the bad ending, but the game gives you subtle hints to figure it out. Then when you figure it out and get a good ending it feels so much better.

Also just very beautiful, I was bawling my eyes out during the credits.

I'm not crying, there are just black clovers in my eyes ;_;

On a serious note, this game is great. It completely immerses you into the world, the characters are lovely, and Niko isn't a cat because Niko doesn't walk on four legs.

It's another one of those games where the less you know going into it, the better.

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones. Had to set the max fps to 90 to get the 60 but it looks amazing.

I didn't really know anything about this game until only a few days ago. After the last 4 hours I can definitely say it's right up my alley.

However it seems to entirely be an exploration game. Do not expect any engaging combat whatsoever. You may have to shoot down a sentry every now and then, maybe an aggressive creature, otherwise combat is pretty much nonexistent.

Combat isn't all that important to me though, and I'm having a blast. The scale of this game is awe inspiring. I've barely even scratched the service and I love it.

A very unique RPG where the choices that really matter are those made during combat. Took me a couple of playthroughs to get it right, even then I didn't really want it to end.

But knowing one day the mouse is going to get the cheese fills me with DETERMINATION
