Great game, definitely on the difficult side for a roguelite. I do miss iframes on dash from Curse of the Dead Gods though.

It's changed quite a bit since I started playing, and that's really been for the better. It's a great roguelite with a whole lot of customisation and variety from before the run even starts.

I give Darkest Dungeon a 9/10. The game forces you to stop and strategise elements such as trinkets, party combination, supplies, and the cost of town and hero upgrades early game means hard choices are forced on the player - and frequently.

This is all aside from the staggering and cumulative difficulty as one progresses through the different levels of dungeons, juggling stress, health, damage, and utility makes the turn-based combat essential. It seems like a lot to handle but the game gives you ample opportunities to prepare; as long as you take them.

Despite the difficulty I personally have had a great experience playing Darkest Dungeon and while I haven't come close to beating it, there's something really thoughtful about the design of this game that has me coming back for more; masochism be damned.
