clear 2024 GOTY winner in my opinion

played this game with zero expectations in mind and oh boy! the story, gameplay, environment, and characters are all great

the cutscenes, characters, and environment are definitely the star of this game. they are very polished, and I can see the devs really putting a lot of love into it because the attention of detail will surprise you! for people like me who doesn't know a lot about wukong and chinese mythology, some references might be difficult to follow but I think for the most part you can enjoy the main story line without worrying too much

the combat is a bit like soulslike but it is very very forgiving compared to souls/eldenring, since the dodge timing window is larger and your attacks animations are much faster and they will give you a LOT of powerful tools to fight bosses. overall i love the combat system, although at the later stage of the game i find myself repeating one attack loop that i find to be the best, but hey options are good!

you will find more of your time spent fighting bosses than lesser enemies in this game, and fortunately a majority of the bosses are very well designed! almost everything fits into the "tough but fair" category, as most attacks are choreographed very well. yes there are some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ attacks like homing whirlwind that could surprise-stagger you from off-screen, there's even one boss who spawns an arena full of that homing whirlwinds, but thank god these bosses are rare

overall it took me ~32h to blindly finish the game with the default ending, i got several secret areas but i definitely missed a lot! worth the full price!

one of the best level design ever in a game, it is so satisfying to progress on a new area and unlocking a gate that connects to one of the earlier stages

the difficulty is a bit steep especially in the early game, as your power and survivability is heavily dependent on crafting unlocks

can't wait for the rest of the game!

Storytelling and world building masterpiece as expected of CDPR. Character feels alive and very well written. Side-quests are on a league of its own.

However the combat and gameplay is really bland and boring, probably one of the worst in a AAA game. Not worth it at the full price, wait for discounts.
