TLDR: A frustrating game that I like but unless a few key changes are made, I can't recommend it.

Here are my personal dealbreakers:
  • You lose your character permanently[/b][/u] if the mission timer runs out and they are still on the planet. This includes all your researched workshop items, your actual items, in-game earnable currency...everything. To make matters worse, the mission timers tick down in real time. Work unpredictable? Better remember to bring back a video game character back from their mission otherwise your dozens of hours spent on leveling them up will all be for nothing.
  • You are pretty severely punished if you play solo. When you are downed, another player can usually revive you at no loss however being a solo player, you're forced to respawn either at your chosen bed or a location close to where you landed. When that happens, you lose a certain amount of exp; the amount lost depends on how much exp you have towards your next level. Why?? On top of that, there's a skill tree that is only active when you are playing solo however the points you have to spend to get to use them aren't refunded or credited when you're in a group; you just lost out on all of them. There is also no current way to respec; you need to start from scratch. I would like to see the solo tree either completely disappear or detect when you're unable to use it and refund you those points temporarily. Another option would be to instead give you a buff when you play solo to compensate. In terms of the punishment for respawning, either rework it into a different one or make the amount of exp static. That just makes me want to delay until I just hit a level before attempting a boss and that sucks.
  • There is basically no "creative" mode that's worth playing. Outposts are a tiny percentage of the map where no aggressive enemies spawn so sure, you aren't subject to a few things that makes focusing on creativity like weather events but you still need to gather everything yourself on top of being limited to a play area. I would like to see the option to play on the entire map, not a tiny percentage of it that I can't even pick myself.

Here is why I still play it:

  • The way building works is my personal favourite out of many games like it. When you do take the time to build something you like, your options are plentiful without being too annoying to craft.
  • The gathering mechanics are actually pretty fun. Chopping down trees is refreshing compared to most other games where they magically disappear and you get your wood after a few swings. You can see the rocks or ores disappearing as you hit them, even if sometimes they spawn with a good chunk of it under the map where you can't reach them (at least for now...hopefully)
  • I actually don't mind that you start from nothing every mission. It might limit your strategy at times, even more so if you have a mission that doesn't give you much time or you can't play that much (since the timer is in real time...for some reason.) but for most people, you have the option to take your time and prepare or to risk it and "speedrun" through it.
  • The tech tree is pretty deep and includes some pretty awesome tools to use.

Hope this is useful; lots of these seem to be shared with others so I hope the devs listen to their customers. I want this game to succeed and with some changes, I would love to recommend this game!

Early Access Review
Even while still in early access, Hades manages to provide more than enough enjoyment and value for its mid-tier price tag. The combat is fluid, the music enthralling, the character design diverse and the voice acting enhances the gods’ identity and provides a bit of world building. The weapons offer a few combat style options and can be unlocked quickly while having some potential to be upgraded after some work. The combat is fluid and being hit always feels fair. Without spoiling anything, I feel as though the last boss is a rather large difficulty spike; after 6 runs or so, I managed to make it there and the last 12 or so have been ended by it. Despite this, the combat has me wanting more!

Out of the variety of weapons, some feel very satisfying to use while others feel too simplistic and boring; the worst offender being the bow. This may be due to personal enjoyment from comboing with other weapons, like the sword, or also felt by others.

Hades easily slips into my top 5 roguelite list and is a clear “recommend” from me. If you enjoy fluid combat with the signature Supergiant touch, Hades is the game for you.

TL;DR - Not only is Faeria a good game, it made me feel happy to drop Hearthstone for it.

Note: I will heavily compared this to Hearthstone.

- PvE

The PvE experience is very different from Hearthstone, providing "win this turn" levels as well as standard games using different archetypes for the bots like control, aggro and midrange. The turorials are a little jarring and outstay their welcome. To finish and unlock all the levels will, however, require an enormous amount of in-game currency or buying gems with real money. If you don't, the "lanes", which are piles of levels separated in three lanes, will not be unlocked and will not be able to be switched until you unlock and beat it.

- PvP

PvP has two modes: constructed i.e. Ranked or Casual, and Pandora i.e. drafting. The biggest difference would be free Pandora (their version of "Arena") runs, which do not require anything to try. The run is reduced to a possible 3 wins / 2 losses but the game itself is the same. SHould you get 3 wins, you can gain a part of a full-run token which is required to enter the full Pandora run. I would love the option to use coins (AKA in-game currency) to enter a full Pandora run like Hearthstone to avoid forcing players to grind practice runs.

- The F2P experience

The early experience is by far the best, providing free in-game currency, free playsets of cards you don't already have and chests (which are basically card packs). You also received a few premium chests, which contain cosmetics and "mythic" cards, which are their equivalent of Golden cards in Hearthstone. The big difference is that the "mythic" cards have the exact same art (so it's not animated like in Hearthstone), but the frame is nicer and shinier. Because of that, it makes them so much less attrative, to the point that I have disenchanted all of mine to have more crystals (which is basically Dust) to craft the cards I want.

A welcome addition is that you have the option of rerolling ONE card from any pack. You are limited to rerolling once per pack and only the card with the highest rarity. If two cards have the same rarity, you get to pick one of the two.

Lastly, not only do you get a free quest every day (and options to reroll it if you don'T like it), but they have DAILY LOGIN REWARDS!

In conclusion, if you need a break from Hearthstone, I say this is a good start.
