I was the Boss. I had all the power. I had the gun. I had the respect of the crew. I had one job. I shot the wrong guy five times in a row across five separate sessions. Five innocent men. In a moment of clarity I tossed my six shooter to the rat, with one bullet remaining, so he could end my misery and punish me for my crimes against this organization.
He looked me in the eyes. He turned around. He shot the last remaining member of the family right in front of me. He won the game. I lost the family.

If you removed the Star Wars license from this game and called it "Generic Space Shooter 2," it would be a bargain bin footnote. The maps are mid. The heroes are underwhelming. Most of the game modes feel like they were designed by someone who had heard of fun but never experienced it firsthand.

But...

It's Star Wars.

Could the gameplay be deeper? Absolutely. Could the progression be better? Undoubtedly. Could I put it down and play literally anything objectively better? Without question. But then I wouldn't get to be Darth Vader force choking someone on the beaches of Scarif while the most iconic music in cinema history plays in the background. EA didn't make a great game. They made a mediocre game and bolted Star Wars onto it, and I'm here for it.

I got this game for my PS3 in 2011. I have since bought it for my PS4, my Nintendo Switch, my Xbox Series S, my PC, my smart fridge, and I'm pretty sure Bethesda is going to release it on whatever cybernetic implants I get in the future. I am sure I have thousands of hours logged across platforms. A man named Todd keeps emailing me about a "remastered anniversary extreme deluxe edition" and I keep saying yes. I don't know who Todd is anymore. I don't know who I am anymore. My character is a level 87 Nord who has saved the world from a dragon apocalypse but cannot figure out how to exit a conversation with a blacksmith. He has 300 wheels of cheese in his house. His wife hates him. His horse has died 14 times. He is me.

I've been playing NMS since launch on PS4. I have had 7 different girlfriends since then. They all left me, but this game has never let me down. 10/10 recommend.
