Early Access Review
A wonderful, cosy city builder with satisfying free-form gameplay. Even in early-access, it is a joy to play.

This game is actively being worked on. Do not purchase in its current state.

Negative review until Arrowhead starts taking Quality Assurance seriously and starts fixing their existing bugs before releasing new content.

UPDATE 4 MONTHS ON: booted the game up for the first time in a while. First defence mission failed it because I died once and kept respawning outside the objective zone. The surrounding rock walls blocked my drop steering, so I couldn’t land back inside to defend the generators. Mission over.

This is especially frustrating because a few months ago there was a whole "ahhh oh we'll stop doing new content for a while and focus on fixing bugs because that's what the community wants :)" push from the devs where I decided to give them some time to let them cook. I come back after giving it time, and not only is there new content, but a known issue that can directly cause a mission fail is still here. Letting divers steer above terrain during deployment would seemingly solve this outright, which the devs *still* haven't done.

I was playing solo, so getting back inside the perimeter mattered, but by the time I’d run around to the entrance, all the generators were destroyed.

I had a grand total of two bug-free operations where I was starting to regain some confidence in this game that has so much potential to be enjoyable, but every time I give it a chance, it lets me down :(((

This game is fun from a narrativistic point of view. The combat feels fun, but is truthfully somewhat reductive in its attempt at being realistic. Combat, largely, revolves around waiting for your enemy to attach, parrying, and landing a reposte (or "master strike") in return. This is true especially when fighting multiple enemies at a time (quite a common occurrence).

I've enjoyed the game, but if you're here strictly/mostly for the combat, I would advise you take your money elsewhere.

awesome rogue-like, sometimes it feels like the game is setting you up for failure but it's chill cuz i love having an unknowable entity slap me around silly and spank my cheeks until they're red <3

This game prides itself on "choices matter", however it's very restrictive in what sort of choices you can actually make. One of the first pressing matters you have to deal with is bandits outside your city. To get the troops needed, a neighbouring king offers troops in exchange for your daughter's hand in marriage. You cannot refuse the offer, even if you've already promised your daughter that you won't marry her off to a stranger.

The story is completely linear; choices do not matter.

You'd think the game play would make up for it, but it's actually very limited. You listen to requests, give them resources (or don't, it doesn't actually matter) and then have a few scripted encounters before the week ends.

The game is okay, but it's not what was advertised to me.

chores simulator, but it's actually fun... from my subjective point of view, anyway.
