You simply have not read enough of his work to have an informed opinion on him, or any other figure from that location, time, or community for that matter. More importantly, what does it mean to be a performative male? Is Thoreau a performative male because he experimented with life and wrote unabashedly about his views? Was Emerson, for his writing on the ideal
"American Scholar"? Was Edgar Allen Poe, for being such a harsh critic of Margaret Fuller, all while writing escapism fiction? Or, perhaps, are YOU the performative male, marking in your review of Camus' "The Stranger", how much of a miscalculation being left alone
"with nothing but your thoughts to accompany you" was?
