Absolutely perfect game, can't wait for the new DLC map. Super chill and pretty and atmospheric, beautiful art and music, bang on progression loop.

I want a NecroSmith game that goes on forever. Always so sad when it ends and the compulsion loop is gone :(

Don't buy this if you're already short on free time XD It's a fantastically addictive gameplay loop with an active dev who's implementing bug fixes, QOL, and balancing updates on a daily basis. It'll appeal to the min-maxers who enjoy number-crunching the stats to push the best out of their builds, but if you're like me and suck at that kind of thing, there's still great appeal in seeing how far you can go even if you don't have a head for the details, with loads of replayability with multiple build options through a variety of gear and character combinations. The community in Discord has been helpful, too, so do check there if you're struggling.

This was really fun! I wish there were more casual clicker games with a self-contained story that comes to an end. It was very cool!

Early Access Review
I don't know what this is but it ain't Torchlight.

I have low standards - I played the heck out of CP2077 from the day it released when it was a buggy messy crashy horrible monster and I loved it.

I hate this.

It's full of really bad translations which makes understanding the interface and mechanics a struggle. It's not Ember any more, it's "Aember", and it lives inside you as Aemberons (something something midi-chlorians something). The writing is terrible. The introduction to the game, the way it's paced and the way the story (the bad story) is delivered, is terrible. The interface is terrible and clunky. One of the most loved things about the previous games was the ability to see the gear you're equipping, which encouraged the modding community to make loads of gear mods, because it's fun seeing your character wearing better and better gear. In this game, the gear you equip doesn't reflect on your character model (because, surprise surprise, they want to sell you outfits instead).

I haven't even gotten to the cash shop yet. I'm 30 minutes in, I have a headache, and I'm grumpy.

Update after playing an hour and a half: it's boring and I still hate it.

Haven't played much and only tried the one class (Huscarl) but it's off to a great start! I was playing on the Steam Deck too and it worked fine. Promising beginning, I like the challenges mechanic where you only stay in a level until you've completed the challenges then you get your rewards and go back to town to spend them.

Looking forward to seeing how it develops!

Early Access Review
Note that this is in Early Access, so it's still in development, and there are bugs and missing features - but that's normal for Early Access, and the devs are very *very* responsive listening to feedback and implementing suggestions and responding to bug fixes. I asked if they'd consider increasing the FOV slider to 90 and had a patch within a matter of hours with it implemented.

It's a beautiful game - the graphics are far improved over the first one, which looked pretty enough. The environments are lush and varied with lots of little spots you can find to fish from, all offering their own challenges and being better/worse for catching specific types of fish; the maps have varied water bodies that are really interesting to explore.

All the core mechanics are there; fish respond to certain lures/baits more than others, are caught better at certain times of day and different weather, and need to be tired out by managing line tension before they can be caught. There's currently a normal and 'realistic' mode ('realistic' has less visual guides), with a sandbox mode on the roadmap.

Not all gear has been implemented yet, but there's plenty there to get started. There's a skill points system when you level up, mini quests on each map for extra money, and earning money and XP feels well-paced, with a nice jump in earnings once you move on from the first map to the second.

I don't fish IRL, but enjoy the relaxing nature and graphical and atmospheric prettiness of fishing sims, and for me, this hits the spot well.

It's like X-Universe 'lite'; a few factions (some human factions, aliens, neutral factions, mercenaries, pirates), systems controlled by different factions with interactions between them (like pirates taking over sectors and blowing up friendly stations), and you can mine/trade/explore/fight. Lots of ship options, form fleets, level yourself up and assign skill points that suit your favoured method of play. It's pretty chill.
