Probably the closest thing to a perfect game, that I have ever played.
I especially loved the various tools and skills you can find, to help in battle and add customisation.

If only the boss battles against Karmelita and Lace didn't exist...

The awful performance alone overshadows any good this game could do.

Not because the frametime graph is more is more important then gameplay, but because there should be a minimum standard of quality. Especially for a game with this price tag.
Also I can only think of 1 other game that crashes more than this one does.

And if I have to talk about the game itself...
MH Wilds dumbed down MH even more than MH World already did.

World already oversimplified Monster Hunter beyond recognition. And this game is worse.

They should drop the ‘hunter’ from the title.
Its no longer a game about hunting, its an arcade monster fighting simulator.
No need for preparation, for tracking, no need to remember or think of or manage anything.
The armour skill system is even less interesting than worlds.

And it’s not like there is much substance to the fights themselves.
The majority of the rooster can be beaten by button mashing into their face. No need for good decision making. In comparison to world there is even less commitment to your actions. Positioning is irrelevant.
Barely a handful of monsters require you to pay attention to what you are doing.

About the only good thing I can think of is, that this game has one of the most fun iterations of my favourite weapon: the Hunting Horn.
Probably my second favourite version after Generations (guild style).
Too bad there isn’t a better game around it.

Over 150 amazing hours in one coop playthrough and we were constantly talking about what we're gonna do in the next playthrough.

Also how do I not pick bard at the character creator?

Imagine trying to disguise a shop update as a sequel.

Before I talk about what I didn't like, I'll start with what I enjoyed the most:
The actual fighting against dinosaur like machines is pretty fun. Enemie attacks don't feel cheap, they are telegraphed enough. Melee attacks have a satisfying weight to them. The game encourages a tactical approach to combat instead of going in guns blazing, which sadly not many action games to.
Only thing I might criticize here, is that your arrows have a really tiny hitbox, so you need to be very VERY precise, which is borderline impossible in certain fights considering that you have to dodge enemies attacks, but I may just need to gid gut.

But sadly this is only one small part of the game. The rest is filled with less refined and sometimes even badly implemented gameplay elements, that don't complement the core gameplay and just seem to be there to stretch the game or serve as a different way of story telling. Such sections include:
-an overly long tutorial
-slowly walking behind character while they talk.
-scripted game play sessions (holding W and pressing jump on command is not exciting game-play even if the narrative says this is a dangerous path)
-talking to NPCs
-going from point A to point B and then return
-generic cover based shooting against human enemies

Some other complains I have about the game:
-you can only climb in per-defined spots, even rocks that only go to your waist can only be jumped on
-invisible walls
-your character constantly talks to herself, which cannot be disabled. You can turn the speech volume down, but that also mutes people in cut-scenes.
-the while looking decent in screenshots, this game is rather ugly in motion. Animations for everything except enemies are stiff, especially plants when moved by wind/characters. Also none off the anti aliasing settings delivers satisfying results.
-I'm personally no fan of the art style, everything just blurs together, places rarely stand out from each other.
-sometime the game forces you into combat situations where you CAN'T plan ahead and just have to brawl it out
-most of the 'open' world is rather empty.

I don't know at this time, if I will continue. I have nothing agains story telling but this game seems to be mostly just that, with fun bits of cameplay only here and there in between.

I realized that I never wrote a review for this game. I wanted my thoughts about it written down somewhere, so I figured I use the review for it.

Monster Hunter used to be my favorite video game series for a while. Then this game 'Monster Hunter World' released.
I knew even before I played I, from game play of other players and reading reviews, that this game was not, what I expect from a MH game.
I did eventually play it. And the game manged disappoint me even though I had almost no expectations.

World removed or changed almost everything I like about Monster Hunter.
Some of my issues are:
-the overly simplistic armor skill system
-fast paced reaction based combat, instead of the methodical, commitment based combat of the older MH
-no depth in Palico builds
-preparation before a hunt rendered unimportant, since you have access to almost everything during the hunt (that also destroys the feeling of being 'out there in the wilderness')
-no feedback:
older games used different partial effects, sounds, slight screen shakes and other effects to show the different degrees of impact of an attack. In World even your most strongest attacks feel barely different from your weakest. (like a LV3 Great Sword slash and a dual blade slash)
-unsocial online game, with no one grouping up before the hunt.
-generic pseudo photo realistic art style, that isn't even implemented very well
-general lack of colors and saturation
-Laziness over so many aspects: like weapon design or that every hunting horn makes the same generic sound during a attack. (this is worse than it sounds)
-completely RNG based endgame
-removed weapon type (Prowler)
-world takes itself far to serious. There is barely a hint of the charm and humor the older games had.

With the millions this game sold, I don't believe future games will be any better. But I'm glad that at least other players seem to enjoy it.
