It cannot be overstate how much I both love and appreciate this game,

Short Version:

Its Yuri for people with ADHD levels of hyper-fixation and who thought the bad guys in Avatar were right.

Long Version:

I've been playing Satisfactory since before Update 1 (remember not having conveyer lifts?), I've bought it twice (Epic and then Steam) and have probably sunk a combined 1000+ hours into this game- beating out Fallout New Vegas by a wide margin. This has become my forever game.

Basic rundown, you are sent by the FICSIT Corp to an alien planet to exploit it for its resources to save earth from some impending doom. You must scour the world, setting up and automating factories comprised of smaller manufacturing components, to produce materials necessary to 'save the day'. Which allows your to progress further along in the game by unlocking new ways to build a factory, new parts for factories to produce and deeper complexities to what you will need to build to produce these new parts. Like an ever expanding puzzle, you will need to figure out how to produce the parts you need, how best to automate your factories and how everything must come together to save da earth (or build a mario kart track in the desert like I did).

There is not one, not two, but three in-depth forms of progression. The main being the tier progression where you progress through a set of unlockable buildings, parts and tools to help expand your factories- which you will need to do to produce the parts needed to unlock those tiers to begin with. The second is a form of lateral research that, while not as necessary to finish the game as the mainline tiers, can lead to some very practical time saving discoveries when unlocked and new ways to produce materials.. This lateral research progression also encourages you to explore the world at large. The third form of progression is through an token exchange where you can some structural parts, which while nonessential, can really give your factories a sense of style (style is just as important as efficiency). With so many ways to progress, it never feels like you are stuck as there is always something you can do to move forward in some way.

Speaking of exploration; this is a finely curated world, not a randomly generated one. And since their has been some hand crafted care put into this game's world there are some truly breathtaking vistas- massive cliff faces, wide open fields, dense ancient forests and even a swamp you should definitely go to at night. And with the right tools, you can plumb this world for all its delicious secrets or alien spiders (which you can turn into cats in the game menu if you have a fear of spiders).

And moving around the world is so gratifying. At first you just have your two spindly little twig legs to carry you around everywhere, its slow and sucks. Later on however, you can unlock different mode of transportation: big bep bep cars, choo choo trains and super legs that make you run way faster and jump way longer (seriously, this game has a slide jump that feels so good)

From an outside perspective, having followed the dev updates and release videos- I get the sense that the people who worked on Satisfactory are treated well and pour that same appreciation they receive back into the game. Hearing how those who worked on this game get a few weeks in summer off (though this is a nordic game company I believe they get those regardless), seeing how much fun Snutt and Jace had with the update videos and seeing the community managers pour over community submitted builds (seeing them laugh together during the devlogs pulls at my heartstrings). Its a deep breath of fresh, unexploited, alien atmosphere air considering the state of game dev today.

AND ITS MULTIPLAYER! HIT YOUR FRIENDS WITH A HONK HONK TRUCK!

Thank you Snutt,
Thank you Jace,
Thank you Satisfactory Team
Thank you Coffee Stain Studios
And thank you to the Satisfactory Community

Jump in the sewer, collect cheese, drink rat punch, jump across cubes, meet a big possum, watch a rat rap battle, take a subway ride. This game has it all.

Probably one of the few VR games that has managed to truly 'wow' me so far, despite the game's relatively short length. The puzzles are solid and the use of the environments is extremely creative. I hope Fireproof Games continues to make VR games for The Room series.
