Requiring Secure Boot this far after launch - a setting which requires *going into your BIOS* to change - is kind of idiotic. The game is four years old, why bother.

i think the fact that less than half of the people who made it past the tutorial boss did not make it past the first boss. the gameplay is okay but the design decisions are incredibly frustrating. what i'm mainly talking about is that after two attack combos (which are the only real way you do damage since attacking does pretty much nothing) the boss jumps away for at least 5 seconds - or in the case of phase 2 to an entirely different area that you have to run to. it's impossible to keep any semblance of flowstate or my interest in the game after that

honestly?

it's one of the best non-fromsoft souls likes in the regard that it feels a lot like dark souls 1 or demon souls. it's clunky, it has a bunch of little mysteries, the balance is wonky and there's clearly some loadouts that surpass others but. it has so much charm, it has a lot of neat worldbuilding, and the environment is gorgeous.

is it a good game? yeah honestly i'd say so.
is it a game most people would enjoy? no, but neither was demon souls.

if you really like souls-likes, i think give it a try without comparing it to others and you'll have a fresh and unique experience, if sometimes frustrating.
if you aren't super in to souls-likes but you're into games you really gotta struggle through, you'll also probably have a good time - the game is punishing and almost unfair at times, but there are ways gear-wise to make it easier, and if you explore (or get a co-op partner) you'll find a way through almost any gate that tries to block you.

tl;dr: lacks polish and has clear issues (with both balance, bugs, and gameplay decisions), but so did dark souls and everyone praises that game. it feels genuine and unique, and it's worth giving it a shot if you want that sense of mystery and difficulty that pioneered souls-like games.

hands down the BEST movement i've ever seen in a 3D platformer.

there's so many little tricks you can do to squeeze extra movement out of your already large toolbox of powers, and it really allows you freedom - if you can answer the challenge. sequence breaks are almost encouraged, with certain areas set up for a shortcut, but you'll have to combine wall kicks, slide dashes, or wall runs in creative ways to get every bit of height and distance to make it.

this got me into trouble, because there is one area you can get yourself softlocked if you don't have the wall run ability (and don't restore to a save) - but otherwise, the ability to navigate all of the games areas in several different ways is truly wonderous. I found myself more than once navigating through an area *backwards* (though clearly, there was some aspect of design to allow you to go in any direction, certain shortcut levers make it clear which is the "intended" route).

there's not really much story, and combat is simple, but still fun. the game is short (100% in 5 hours for me) but if you're looking for a space to run around in and explore and challenge yourself to get to hard to reach place, i can't recommend Pseudoregalia more.

Really cute and relaxed idle sim game, full of charm! The soundtrack is one of my favorites and I really like the gameplay loop, especially since it doesn't ask much of you (there's no 'click to make money' button, you just set things up and let them go).

The devs are also super chatty and invested in making the game better over on discord, if that's your kind of thing!

Overall definitely one of my favorite games to relax with and there's enough story to get you attached to wanting to build your town and take on the bosses!

They should have made a Destiny 3. Instead, Destiny 2 does not exist anymore, and the current game is no longer one I enjoy playing. It just fills me with bitterness, honestly.

gay update gay update!!

real review, this game has a lot of charm, is very heartwarming and cute, and actually does a pretty good job of making it a real relationship, with ups and downs and the cracking of jokes at both the worst and best times. its very story and exploration driven game, with pretty simple mechanics and controls, but its just fun and warm in the best ways possible.

i hadn't gotten super far into it, but its definitely enjoyable solo, and im sure as a couple too! or heck, just get a friend ur comfy enough with to crack jokes about it and its still just a cute game to have fun with.

visuals are stylized in nice way, nothing to complain about here, and the environments definitely instill wonder. soundtrack is wonderful, cannot recommend checking it out enough, even if you dont play the game.

yeah, it's just a really solid and cute game, overall pretty laid back even if there's tenser story beats!

first off, this is a souls-like game, so if you dont like dying repeatedly to the same enemies as you struggle to overcome them, elden ring is no exception and you wont have a good time. second off, there are some pretty nasty (but rare) bugs that can cause some frustration, connection issues/syncing issues, and some optimization issues that will hopefully be patched.

that being said, i have instantly fallen in love with the world of this game. there are so many beautiful sights, intriguing creatures, and breathtaking moments. elden ring is a shockingly tender game, and almost always is encouraging you forward. the world and people within it inspire a sense of wonder that has not yet fallen off after 30 hours, and there's so much charm in all of it.

can it be infuriating at times? unfortunately yeah, thats kinda the way it works. can it be cathartic? oh absolutely, you can feel yourself improve and overcome your obstacles. but beyond the gameplay loop and rewards expected of a souls-like, there's truly a sense of curiosity and and exploration, of a largely directionless world you can literally get lost in, and it's filled with life and death in the best ways possible.

Fantastic game that is easy to drop in for 30 minutes, or spend hours in. There's a shocking amount of build diversity and a lot of weird situations to end up in. I definitely keep coming back to it.
