Key to the game is Melee Archery(TM), and lots of Arrows to the knees, make sure to do so wearing full plate!

Pretty much the most relevant game among ARPGs since its release. A labor of love that still receives significant updates in 2023. Ignore at your own expense if you are a fan of the genre!

Early Access Review
Relaxing yet challenging, haven't had so much fun since the early 2000 with Starcraft custom maps. The only missing feature is doing this in coop with friends. Expect hours of laborious efforts to keep your colony alive.

Good music, nice graphics and great performance. Absolutely worth buying if you like the genre!

Warning: Live action episodes are streamed, no option to pre-download them on PC. With Microsoft's track record when it comes to supporting its live services this game will one day will lose half of its content, and it's not exactly optional if you want to enjoy the full story. If you buy, play it, you might not get a chance a few years in the future.

Potential deal breakers:

1) Performance is abismal at resolutions above 1080p even on high end hardware (I'm playing it on an i7 6700k, GTX 980ti with infinite amounts of DDR4), upscaling must be enabled, which results in a blurry soup of cutting edge rendering effects. Why even bother trying to make it pretty? Expect hard frame rate dips down to 20, very often, especially when you'd need it to be smooth: action intense parts.
2) Always on Motion Blur, adds more smearing to the already upscaled picture, you know.. for a better cinematic experience! If it offends your senses keep a bucket nearby during your play sessions.
3) Gameplay is hardly responsive (the jittery frame rate contributes immensely) and the shooty parts are absolutely unenjoyable.
4) Content was QA'd by monkeys: 3 hours in and I wonder why do I even bother trying to use the assault rifle or the SMG, if you want to quickly dispatch of anything you're better off dealing lead with the heavy pistol, just remember to shoot twice, and only in the head. Alternatively if the AI decides not to flank you, feel free to shot them 10 times on the same foot, they will make sure to expose it again exactly where it was, so you don't have to make an effor to aim.

If I didn't go past 2 hours in I'd consider a refund. What a shame, Alan Wake was thoroughly enjoyable in its format. This time around they definitely went a bit too far, and in the process they forgot that there was supposed to be a game underneath all the story.

Cannot in good faith recommend this to anyone used to playing PC games, it's hard to say if it was just bad (I can't play the console version) or it's another poor PC port.

Also, what was microsoft thinking? This game was supposed to be one of the showcase pieces for UWP, and this is the quality the let out of the door? Thanks god I only lost 9 bucks on this, had I paid full price it would've hurt pretty bad.
